in London’s Woman’s Weekly,
quoting from an old East Indian
book:
“Dig a big hole in the garden
of your thoughts. Into it put aU
your disillusions, disap
pointments, regrets, worries,
troubles, doubts and fears, and
forget.
“Cover well with the earth of
fruitfulness. Water it from the
well of content. Sow on top the
seed of hope, courage, strengUi,
patience and love. Ihen when
the time of gathering comes,
may your harvest be a ridi and
fruitful one.’’
Now is die time to begin to
buy bulbs. It is mighty nice if,
you have the soil realty before
you purchase all your bulbs.
Visit your seed store, and find
out what they have this fall.
Your garden in the spring is
exactly what you think and do
during the autumn season.
Hyacinth, tulips, iris,
snowdrops, crocus, daffodils
and narcissus wiU make a
splash of color and sweet
perfume in the spring. We had
such a bad year for camellias it
looks like we may have con
siderable loss this season.
Try the corkscrew shrub, or
contorta, for a rare, decorative
addition to your growing things.
It is hardy, and grows three feet
tall. Make your gardening more
fascinating by experimenting
with new varieties.
“The last rose of summer’’ is
an expression familiar to all of
us. This week, for our Buds and
Blossoms poem, we bring you
Thomas Moore’s lines in their
entirety.
Tis the last rose of summer
Left blooming alone;
All her lovely campanions
Are faded and gone;
No flower of her kindred.
No rosebud, is nigh.
To reflect bade her blushes.
To give sigh for sigh.
I’ll not leave three, thou lone
one.
To pine on the stem;
Since the lovely are deeping.
Go sleep thou with them.
Thus kindly I scatter
Thy leaves o’er the bed.
Where thy mates of the garden
Lie scentless and dead.
So soon may I follow
When friendships decay.
And from Love’s shining circle
The gems drop away!
When true hearts lie wither’d,
And fond ones are flown.
Oh! who would inhabit
This bleak world alone?

Since 1964 the cost of living has gone
up 21 percent... and services are 28
