Did you ever get bitten by a squirrel: Did you ever catch a squirrel eating your most vuuable bulbs: The Sudbury Laboratory, Inc., has a product to prevent all this. The odor from the Chaperone Squirrel Repellrat” will cause ttie frisky little fellows to seek other quarters..It will not harm the squirrels, or any of your pets. It will only curb their harmful activity. Inquire at your seed store for this. The same company offers deer and rabbit repeUants. If you live by a creek, or near a large wooded area, you may have need for this protection. What a pity we can’t explain the problem to our animal neigh bors. If you haven’t visited a feed and seed store lately, you should do so. There are many new and interesting items this season. It’s a wond^ul place to look around, to your heart’s content. Don’t be depressed by the loss of trees, shrubs and flowers during the severe weather we had during a portion of the winter. Grow something else, and maybe ihake some im- (vovement. Anyway, garden, it’s excellent therapy. This week’s Buds and Blossoms poem, titled Days Too Short, was peimed by W. H. Davies. When primroses are out in Spring, And small, blue violets come between; AVhen merry birds sing on boughs green, And rills, as soon as bom, must sing; When butterflies will make side- leaps. The future of a country is safe only in the hands of those to whom her past is dear.— William Ralph Inge. Every man is an original and solitary character. None can either understand or feel the book of his own life like him self.—Cecil. Faith, like light, should always be simple and un- bencUng; while love, like warmth, should beam forth on every side and bend to every necessity of our brethren.— Luther. Poetry is in itself strength and joy, whether it be crowned by all mankind, or left alone in its own magic hermitage.— Sterling. While reason is puzzling itself about mystery, faith is turning it to daily bread, and feeding on it thankfully.—F, D. Hunt- in^on. Mankind in the gross is a gaping monster, that loves to be deceived, and has seldom been dsappointed.—Mackenzie. An orator or author is never successful till he has learned to make his words smaller than his ideas.—Emerson. The proper way to increase the love we bear for our country is to reside some time in a foreign one.—Shenstone. Mistake not. ALCOKE'S TIRE MART 4)6 Broad St. NEW & USED TIRES • DEPENDABLE TIRE SERVICE CAROLINA OIL & DISTRIBUTING CO. uniQn PRODUCTS FOR YOUR CAR, TRUCK, HOME & FARM It’s Tine To Chaige Thiogs As an automobile owner, you have good reason to resent the unfairness in North Carolina’s present insurance rates. Having been in the insurance business for a number of years, I have become increasingly concerned about th inequities in the present rate system over which none of us have any control. This matter, a touchy subject among those seeking to serve in the next General Assembly, should and will confront members of the State Senate. You are entitled to more than double talk and evasive answers from any and a|l candidates when you ask, "What about automobile insurance?” When the citizens of Craven, Carteret, and Pamlico Counties elect me to the State Senate, correcting insurance inequities will be a prime objec tive. I have no quarrel with those who recommend a thorough study of our insurance rating system, but exhaustive studies without change won’t help YOU. The existing situation, delayed by hearings and feet dragging tactics on the part of those who are opposed to alterations could remain in effect for years. There is something wrong with a rating system that enables a convicted drunken driver to get automobile insurance at a lower premium than a careful, law abiding driver whose only crime is being young. Nor should the Senior Citizen with an excellent record and driving habits above re proach be forced into the assigned risk pool. Recklessness is not confined to youthful drivers. You don’t have to travel very far on the highway to determine this fact. Whatever a driver’s age may be, he or she should be Judged Individually, and rated accordingly. This is just one glaring example of the unfairness in our present method of determining insurance premiums, and the driver is forced to accept it. When i go to the State Senate, representing Carteret, Craven, and Pamlico Counties, it will be with the expectation of remaining in Raleigh until legislation is enacted that will give YOU relief from this arbitrary oppression. This is my answer to "What about automobile insurance?” Any an swer from any candidate seeking to serve you should be equally clear cut. I will not hedge, and I will not straddle the issue. THE TIME FOR DECISIVE ACTION IS NOW. ELECT D. Livingstone Stallings DEMOCRAT STATE SENATE SECOND SENATORIAL DISTRICT CARTERET - CRAVEN - PAMLICO 1311 N. Cwvon S.
