“Come, and let us go up to the
mountainof the Lord, and to the
house of the God of Jacob; and
he will teach us of his ways, and
we will walk in his paths.”—
Mic. 4:2.
Mistletoe is a plant that has
earned the name of thief, as it
grows on trees and draws water
and minerals from them. It is a
perfect parasite.
Some kinds of birds
especially like the white berries
that the mistletoe produces.
They eat the juicy part of the
beny. Then they dean their
beak off m the bark of the tree.

and more mistletoe grows.
It grows on many kinds of
trees. In stnne places a single
plant may be as large as a
barrel. In the southern U. S. A.
it can grow so profusely that the
tree it clings to is almost ob-
scired.
In nature, animals and in
sects act as partners. They
aren’t parasites like the
mistletoe. Bees help clover by
caring the pollen from flower
to flower, and bees produce
honey.
Roses, lilies-of-the-valley,
violets, and many other flowers
are very fragrant. I^e sweet
smell comes from the special oil
in them. The perfume makers
get the oil from the flowers, and
add a waxy substance from
whales, musk deer, or beaver.
Alcohol must always be added.
It takes a ton of rose petals to
make a pound of rose oU. Today
lots of the perfume comes from
coal tar, and new fragrances
have been produced from this
source.
Perfume has been made for
thousands of years. It has b^n
found in ancient tombs of
Egypt, and Columbus brought it
to America.
This week, for our Buds and
Blossoms poem, we bring you
Friends, from the pen of
Thomas Curtis Gark.

If all were gathered up and
