Letters to the Editor
Reader wants more
national and
international news
Dear Mr. Cannon:
Upon seriously and care
fully reading three copies of
The West Craven high
lights, may I congratulate
you as Editor and Publis
her. The three copies of the
West Craven highlights not
only gave me the privilege
of reading about local and
city news but state news as
well. With all respect to
you, the editor and publish
er of The West Craven
highlights, it is my opinion
that for a paper to be truly
successful it must contain
national and international
news. I wish to enclose an
article of the subject of
inflation, depression, rebel
lion and Communism. An
article which is lengthy,
debatable and perhaps criti
cal may be edited in your
paper if you desire to edit.
May you have great success
with The West Craven
Highlights.
Sincerely yours.

One of the greatest of
our history’s trend
setters, this woman was
as innovative in her per
sonal style as she was
clever in her business af
fairs. After earning a
spectacular reputation as
a dancer and woman of
fashion in Paris in the ear
ly 1900s, she and her hus
band returned to the
United States in 1912 to
an even more enthusiastic
reception. She influenced
women everywhere to don
silky Turkish trousers,
feathery hats and large
bright-colored flower cor
sages. She also introduc
ed the Hesitation Waltz
and the tango to this
country. Who was that
lady? Irene Castle.
