»i I ■ fum Page 2 West Craven HIGHLIGHTS, November 2.3, 1978 Asbury Bazaar a big success The women of the Asbury United Methodist Church held their annual bazaar Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Asbury Fire Station. The bazaar included deli cious baked goods, a coun try store, the Christmas shop, and an arts and craft sale featuring several quilts made by the ladies of the church. Hot dogs, sandwiches, ham and sausage biscuits, coffee and soft drinks were served throughout the day. Proceeds from the bazaar each year go to the building fund of the church. The ladies wish to thank every one for their cooperation in making the day such a success. Miss Sherry Register was honored on her thirteenth birthday, Nov. 16 with a skating party held at Rol- lerland given by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Register. Sherry was presented gifts by the 30 guests present. Re freshments of cake, ice cream, potato chips and soft drinks were served. Miss Karen Amerson spent the weekend in Greenville and attended the Homecoming Game at East Carolina University. Mr. and Mrs. Donald' Above , buyers and lookers admire the wares at the Asbury Bazaar. Ipock announce the birth of a daughter, Cassie Mae, on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Craven County Hospital. Mrs. Ipock is the former Miss Linda Hardison of New Bern. The boys and adults leaders of Troop 620 con ducted a seven mile hike Sunday, Nov. 12. It began at the home of Michael Register and went to the Neuse River. After spend ing sometime exploring the river bank, the boys hiked back to their starting point. The boys who participated in the hike were Tommy White, David Thomas, Michael Register, Todd Jenkins, Curtis Daly, Leslie Manning, Mark Bender and Lee Kirkman. Adult leaders accompanying the boys included Obie Kirk man, Mike Register, Walter Thomas and Rev. Roger Cope. The Christian Women's Fellowship of Riverside Christian Church will spon sor a flea market sale on Saturday, December 9th on the Murphy Lot at Grifton. Proceeds will be used for the building fund. More details will be given later. Wednesday night, Nov. 22, there will be a fellowship dinner at 6 p.m. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy Christian Fellowship at Riverside Church. At 7 p.m. Douglas Stokes, a stu dent at Duke Divinity School in Durham and a member of the church will give a Thanksgiving media tion. The members wel- come him back with great joy and thanksgiving for a young person so dedicated to the ministry. The Christian Women's Fellowship of Riverside Christian Church met Thursday night at 7 p.m. with eighteen members present. The program “Free to Fail” was given by Mrs. Lola Mae Foye, pro gram chairman. Mrs. Gayle Witherington gave the devotion. Plans were made for Operation Santa Claus. Gifts will be made to Caswell Training Center in Kinston. Mrs. Betty Williams, hostess, served refresh ments. Mrs. Wilma Causey, Mr. Lawrence Causey and Mrs. Lola Mae Foy spent Satur day in Roanoke Rapids visiting relatives. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Berry and Elizabeth of South Port spent the weekend with ftfos. The Annual Awards Dinner for the Bridgeton Broncos and Raiders was held Saturday, November 18th, at West Craven Junior High School. The players, cheerleaders, coaches, parents and special guests enjoyed a covered dish supper. New Bern High School Head Football Coach Gene Worthington was the guest speaker. Each player and cheerleader received a trophy for participating in the 1978 Football Season. The boys were congratu lated on having a good season. J. F. Hill during the Thanksgiving holidays.
