Alumni To Hold Banquet
Fond Memory Turns To Thee
by Connie Bryan
Tomorrow night “fond
mem’ry” will once again
turn to "dear old Farm
Life School,” as graduates
of that school gather to
renew old friendships, to
catch up on all the news,
and to remember days
gone by. The Alumni
Association meets every
year on the Friday before
Mother’s Day. Plans for
this year’s meeting
include a banquet of
barbecued pork and fried
chicken to be cathered by
Parker’s Barbecue of
Greenville. State Senator
Joe Thomas (Class of
1959) will give the
keynote address. A dance
will follow the business
meeting and program.
This year’s meeting
promises to have a special
highlight for some. It has
been reported that Mr.
and Mrs. E.P. Blair will be
in attendence. No one has
to remind those who
knew Mr. Blair as
principal and friend
about him, but for the
younger generations. Mr.
Blair came to Vanceboro
in 1933 as coach and
social studies teacher at
Farm Life School. From
1938 to 1965, he served as
principal. Mr. Blair
piloted the school
through the tumultuous
years of the Second World
War and the prosperous
ones of the 1950’s. During
the 1950’s the curriculum
grew to meet the needs of
the growing enrollment.
The physical plant also
expanded to include an
agriculture bulding, a
750-seat auditorium, a
gymnasium, and a home
economics building with
a science annex.
The Alumni meetings
are open to all graduates
of Farm Life. Last year
members voted to include
any person who attended

The results are in, and
Mrs. Sally Morris’ yard
has been selected as this
year’s winner of the
Vanceboro Junior Wo
man’s Club’s Yard
Beautification Contest.
Mrs. Morris was awarded
a $7.50 gift certificate to
Green World Nursery for
the club. A sign has been
posted in her yard desig
nating her as the winner.
Mrs. Morris, whose home
is on Stewart Avenue,
thanked the club and said
that she was very
surprised that she had
won since all of the yards
looked veiy nice.
The yard's of Mrs.
Sarah Jones, Mrs. Ann
Lancaster, and Mrs.
Muriel Fornes were given
honorable mention with
signs also posted in their
yards.
Paula Jordan, chair
woman of the judging
committee, commented,
“It was a difficult
decision. All of the yards
were beautiful. But we
feel that we have made a
good choice.” She added
that the club would like to
congratulate not just
those who won. but
everyone who partici
pated in Clean-Up
Month.
Farm Life - High Schex)!,
but graduated from
another school. This new
policy allows students
who went to Farm Life,
but graduated from West
Craven to also become a
part of this annual "get-
together.”
The banquet will begin
at 7:00 in the Farm Life
Cafeteria. There will be a
$4.00 charge for dinner
and an additional charge
admission fee for the
dance. The band “Purple
Lace” will be performing.
The Association invites
all members and their
guests to travel with them
down memory lane.
