St. Paul’s Episcopal
Church celebrated the
Fourth of July, Indepen
dence Day, with a service
of Evening Prayer at 7:00
on Wednesday. The service
was followed by a Le
monade Reception in the
Parish Hall.

send, rector of St. Paul’s,
writes, “Christians have
long championed justice
and sound government,
and opposed the twin evils
of oppression on the one
hand and anarchy on the
other. When America won
her independence and
founded a new nation on
this continent she was seen

sion but stopping short of

bride of Tony Percivai Baker, son of Mrs. Naomi
Baker and the late Mr. Baker of Grifton, on Aprii 14,

Patrick Henry delivered
his renowned “Give me
Liberty or give me death”
speech in St. John’s
Church, Richmond. Richard
Henry Lee first proposed
the Declaration of Inde
pendence and Thomas
Jefferson contributed to
the writing of it. George
Washington, ‘on whose
character the Revolution
rested,’ was a stauch
Episcopal churchman, as
were James Madison, the
“Father of the Constitu
tion,” and John Paul Jones,
the “Father of the Ameri
can Navy.”
Mr. and Mrs. Frank
Dawson returned Sunday
after visiting his brother
Mr. Hubert Dawson and
family in Landham,
Maryland for the week
end. They were joined on
Saturday by Mrs. Georgi-
anna Barfield, daughter of
Frank and Lilia Dawson,
and their two grandsons,
Antoine and Anthony, and
their sister-in-law, Hosea
Kilpatrick. Mr. and Mrs.
Dawson reported that they
had a very nice time.
Staneil Carawon and
wife, Betty Jo were visitors
of Mrs. Kathleen Carawon
on Sunday, June 17th.
They have lived in
Goldsboro during the past
four years. Betty Jo
Carawon is a surgical
nurse at Seymour-Johnson
Air Force Base. Mr.
Carawon works with the
Redevelopment Depart
ment of the City of
Goldsboro. Mr. and Mrs.
Carawon will be leaving
Goldsboro on September
16, 1976 for Colorado
Springs, Colorado. Mrs.
Carawon, a major in the
Air Force, will be stationed
at the Air Force Academy
Hospital there.
On June 24th, Mrs.
Kathleen Carawon had as
her dinner guest Mrs. Lela
S. Koe, Kathy Kee, Mrs.
Lela Barrow, and Mrs.
Vera Smith.
Mrs. Vera Smith had her
daughter Betsy Keene ss
sn overnight guest last
Saturday.
Ladies visit New York
Mrs. Dot Wilson, Mrs.
Beatrice Morris, Mrs.
Janice Jordan and Mrs.
Beth Jordan have returned
from a visit to New York
City. They traveled by bus
on June 20 with a group
from Per-Flo Tours of
Goldsboro. On the way up,
they stopped in the
Washington area for lunch.
While in New York, the
group stayed at the
Sheraton Center Hotel on
52nd and 7th Avenue. They
dined at the famous
Mamma Leone’s on
Wednesday night.
Thursday was devoted to
a tour of the city with a side
trip to the Statue of
Liberty. Friday they
meet on a cruise around
Manhattan Island, which
took over 3 hours, and on
Saturday they went on a
shopping tour of the many.
famous stores of New
York. This tour also
included the World Trade
Center, which is 107 stories
high. From the top floor,
the ladies delighted in a
breath-taking, 20-mile
view. That night they
enjoyed a delicious dinner
at the New York night
club, Hawaii Kai. After
wards, they hired a horse
and carriage for a ride
down 5th Avenue and
through Central Park.
The group attended two
Broadway productions
during their stay. The first
was “Anne” at the Alvin
Theatre and the other was
“Got to go Disco” at the
Minskoff. They also visited
the world renown Radio
City Music Hall.
The group checked out of
the hotel Sunday morning
and arrived back in
Goldsboro Sunday night.

WEDDING PLANS ANNOUNCED- Mr. and Mrs.
W. R. Copeland of Vanceboro announce the wedding
of their daughter, La Rue, to Edward Earl Wilson,
Jr., son of Mrs. Betsy Ann Wilson and the late
Edward Earl Wilson. ’Ilie wedding is scheduled for
4:00 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at the Vanceboro United
Methodist Church. No invitations are being sent. All
friends and relatives of the couple are invited.
Copeland Honored
Miss LaRue Copeland
was honored with a
floating miscellaneous
shower Thursday, June 28,
at the home of Mrs. Inez
Bryan. Other hostesses for
the occasion were Mrs.
Beverly Bryan and Mrs.
Janice Jordan.
Miss Copeland was
presented with a white silk
corsage. Her mother, Mrs.
Marlene Copeland, was
given a pink rose. Miss
Copeland received many
lovely gifts, for which she
thanked everyone.
Guests enjoyed refresh
ments of cake squares,
pecan sticks, cheese
waffers, nuts, mints, and
punch. The buffet table
was covered with a white
linen tablecloth with a
centerpiece of white
daises, snapdragons, and
Queen Anne’s lace.
Miss Copeland will be
married to Edward Earl
Wilson, Jr., in a 4:00 p.m,
ceremony on July 14, at
the Vanceboro United
Methodist Church.
