Thursday, August 20, 1981 8 Pages Cove City Dedicates Rescue Squad By CHRISSIE CHANEY Staff Writer Cove City’s first Rescue Squad was dediq^^liyn a ceremony at the town’s Fire Static drr Sunday, August 16th. About 160 to 200 people attended the afternoon dedication. Squad President Benjamin Grady welcomed the audience and an invocation was given by the Rev. M. Everington. Cove City Mayor, Dick Davis, thanked the squad members as well as all Cove City citizens for their support of the rescue squad project. Featured speaker for the ceremony was Howard “Buddy” Shaw, Regional Coordinator of the North Carolina Emergency Medical Service. Mr. Shaw’s talk covered several topics. He, too, expressed his appreciation for the support and hard work of the rescue squad members. He stressed the many hours of training which they have all received. He particularly emphasized the fact that all of Cove City Rescue Squad work will be done by volunteers. He then called upon the residents of the town to give the squad their support in order to make the job of the workers easier. Shaw reminded the citizens that the squad should be used, and not abused. Rescue Squad Captain Randolph Wilson then introduced the members of the Squad according to their individual teams. Following this introduction and the close of the ceremony the Squad equipment was on display. ■rhe Cove City Rescue Squad is now in full operation. Activities for the afternoon included speeches by Mayor Dick Davis and Buddy Shaw, regional coordinator of N.C. Emergency Services. , . „ , Ipnolo by Richard Cannon) Lancaster ' Elected President Craven County Commissio ner Grover Lancaster has been elected President of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners. Lancaster, a Vanceboro resident, has served on the Craven County Commission ers Board for 20 years. His duties as President of the association will include lobbying in the North Carolina Senate to see that the interests of the Commission ers Board are made known. His election on Saturday came after ayear of serving as vice-president of the organization. Area Boy Injured A Vanceboro boy was injured Monday in a tractor accident near his home. Gregory Scott Dixon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dickie Dixon of Rt. 2, Vanceboro, reportedly fell from the tractor on which he was riding and was run over by a rear wheel. Dixon sustained internal and pelvic injuries in the accident. He is listed in stable condition at Craven County Hospital. See Page IF for 1981 Football Season Preview
