Cove City Dedicates Rescue Squad

Cove City’s first Rescue Squad was
dediq^^liyn a ceremony at the town’s Fire
Static drr Sunday, August 16th. About 160
to 200 people attended the afternoon
dedication.
Squad President Benjamin Grady
welcomed the audience and an invocation
was given by the Rev. M. Everington. Cove
City Mayor, Dick Davis, thanked the squad
members as well as all Cove City citizens for
their support of the rescue squad project.
Featured speaker for the ceremony was
Howard “Buddy” Shaw, Regional
Coordinator of the North Carolina
Emergency Medical Service. Mr. Shaw’s
talk covered several topics. He, too,
expressed his appreciation for the support
and hard work of the rescue squad members.
He stressed the many hours of training
which they have all received. He
particularly emphasized the fact that all of
Cove City Rescue Squad work will be done
by volunteers. He then called upon the
residents of the town to give the squad their
support in order to make the job of the
workers easier. Shaw reminded the citizens
that the squad should be used, and not
abused.
Rescue Squad Captain Randolph Wilson
then introduced the members of the Squad
according to their individual teams.
Following this introduction and the close of
the ceremony the Squad equipment was on
display.

Approximately 200 Cove City residents turned out for the
dedication of the new Cove City Rescue Squad at the
ceremonies on Sunday, August 16th. Activities for the
afternoon included speeches by Mayor Dick Davis and
Buddy Shaw, regional coordinator of N.C. Emergency

His election on Saturday

Boy
Injured
A Vanceboro boy was
injured Monday in a tractor
accident near his home.
Gregory Scott Dixon, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Dickie Dixon of
Rt. 2, Vanceboro, reportedly
fell from the tractor on which
he was riding and was run
over by a rear wheel.
Dixon sustained internal
and pelvic injuries in the
accident. He is listed in stable
condition at Craven County
Hospital.
