Dunn are celebrating their fifty-third year of marriage this week. They were raised on Maul Swamp Road. Mr. Dunn was eleven years old when his family moved to Maul Swamp. Mrs. Dunn was Lillie Laughinghouse and she and her family have lived on Maul Swamp all her life. They were married Saturday, December 8,1928 on a rainy and snowy day at the Court House in New Bern. They spent their honeymoon in the city of New Bern. Mr. & Mrs. Cyrus L. Powell, Mrs. Dunn’s cousin, were hosts for the Dunns for their honeymoon night. Mrs. Dunn recalls Carrie Lee Ipock, later Carrie Lee McVicker was with them on their honeymoon night staying at the same house. The Dunns took only one night for their honeymoon because they had to return to Maul Swamp to cook for the family on Sunday. For most of their married life they have farmed in the Maul Swamp community. They raised one daughter, Retha. Their work, their community, and their church have made their life worthwhile during these years of marriage. They told us they would make very few changes if they had their life to live over. They are a real asset to their community and their church. They can be found taking an active part in community and church activities daily. Author Agatha Christie was also a registered pharmacist. This enabled her to portray poi- sons in her stories more accurately.
