Pagt 8t Watt Cravan Hlghllghta, February 4, 1982 FORT BARNWELL -HIGHLKSHTS— The news around town is hard to find unless one has a good deal of time to check on possible prospects. One neighbor was speaking to another on the telephone Sunday afternoon and after some discussion of how she had enjoyed the day, she explained that she had to put the cats out. Her friend asked,“Why?” Then the neighbor stated that the cats had a terrible habit of turning on the lights after she retired for bed. Oh, yes! The cats had discovered that by pulling the string that was attached to the lights, the lights would come on. The cats did not know that they were annoying their master at night. They had to find a different sleeping place. The Quarterly Meeting of St. Edwards F. W. B. Church was observed Sunday, January 31. The public was invited to attend. Elder William Waters is the pastor. Sad news reached the St. Edwards Church family in the loss of one of its members. Mrs. Sherlene Fulmore Hargett of the Cove City area passed away on Wednesday, January 27. Funeral services were held on Monday, February 1, at 2:00 p. m. GOVE CITY -HK3HL1GHTS- The Cove City Town Board held its monthly meeting February 1st. The Board approved a proposal to plan a Silver Anniversary Celebration the week of April 26th, the 25th Anniversary of the re-incorporation of the town. Also, Eleanor Hawkins met with the Board concerning a proposal on the expansion of the library. After further specifications are received, notice of bids will be sent out. JilSHUSHIS— The town of Bridgeton held its monthly meeting Feb. 1. The chairman of the Planning Bokrd discussed the zoning ordinance concerning front yard minimum footage of 36 ft. from 40 ft. A nomination to re-appoint members Tommy Rodgers and Grace Brito for two more years was made. A new member, Albert Ipock, was nominated. They are to be sworn in at the March meeting. Burning of old abandoned buildings was discussed also. They plan on burning two this month. The lawsuit with Southern Outdoor Advertising was discussed and dismissed. A new roof for the Town Hall is planned for this summer. Snow And Ice Removal Cost Snow and ice removal for North Carolina highways for January 12 through January 15 cost in excess of $3.1 million. These movies are available free through the Vanceboro Library and are being shown by the Youth Center Board of Directors, a channel of the Vanceboro area Ministerial Fellowship. There will be no charge to the young people and all in the Vanceboro area are encouraged to come out and enjoy them. There will also be free popcorn. Candy & Drinks will be available at a small charge. The movies for Feb. are “Martin, the Cobbler”, ani animated film showing that where love is, God is.. “A Boy & Boa” in color and “Nickolina”.
