*>y . 9 ^ I Pag* 14, Wast Cravan Highllghta, Fabruary ll, 1982 LCC Information KINSTON-The follow-up study of vocatonal and technical students in the community collejfe system who left school during 1979-80. completed in the summer of 1981, shows Lenoir Community College was one of the institutions with a higher return of responses than the state-wide average, according to Dr. Mary Cauley, coordinator of self-study and research programs at LCC. State-wide returns on 53,045 curriculem students, graduates, early leavers and dropouts, showed 24,441 responses, including 11.681 graduates from Extra Food whom 6,956 res|M)nses were received. The overall rate of return was 46.1 percent and for graduates it was 59.5 percent, which Dr. Larry Blake, president of the N. C. Depti of Community Colleges, called a "a very good rate of returns." The survey, largest ever attempted in the United States, cost $43,885. Notable among the results was the high .satisfaction of the students with the .services offered in the system, with only 4 percent rating services below average. More than half of the students who attended and more than 70 percent of graduates said the training they received related to their present occupations. Nearly 80 percent are meeting their objectives, and of those who fail to meet them, less than five percent indicated any dissatisfaction widA the institution they atUmded. Most of the studenSP who failed to meet their objectives plan to continue to pursue them. The data appears to indicate a need for better placement services, additional financial aid and more flexible scheduling for curriculum students, the state-wide report stated.
