Thursday, March 18, 1982 20 Cents Student Teachers West Craven Students from Universities and Colleges have to receive classroom training in their field before they can receive their teaching degree. West Craven High '.^School is one of the many schools in North Carolina is participating in the Student Teacher T’rogram. I Currently, there are seven student teachers from East Carolina University doing their practice at West Craven High School. In Graphics John Cheatham is having a great time teaching the fundamentals of printing layout and photography; in Driver’s Education Ron Headly and Dick Lavin are training students to be good drivers and preparing them for their driver’s license; in Home Economics Eva Riddick is practicing her skills teaching students to be good homemakers; in Health Education Cherri Batts and Patricia Alexander are busy teaching the fundamentals of fiiood health to their students and in Marketing & Distributive Education Jandra Crawford is practicing her skills in retailing, display, and competency education. Miss Crawford’s present project is window displays made by students. Cheerleaders Meet At West Craven High School m West Craven High School will be hosting the 1st Annual Coastal 3-A Conference Cheerleader Competition on March 27, 1982, at 1:00 p.m. in the School gymnasium. Participating in the competition will be the varsity and junior varsity cheerleading squads from the conference schools: D.H. Conley, avelock. North Lenoir, West Carteret, West Craven and White Oak High Schools. The competition is open to the public and the admission fee is $1.00. Jem Chandler is shown above with the Cancer Competition Award which was presented to the Farm Life Extension Club for the second straight year. The homemakers of Craven County had a meeting last week at West New Bern Recreation Center. The ladies attended a fashion show under the direction of Mrs. Frances Walker, Home Agent, Coordinator and’ Ms. Athene Bunn, Civic Theater. Ladies from the area showed the latest fashion that they had made for themselves or even members of their families. The awards were presented at a ceremony before lunch. Those participating in the award ceremony were Mrs. Vivian Taylor, of Farm Life EHC presented Perfect Attendance Awards. Mrs. Emeler Campbell, Vanceboro presented the VEEP Award; Mrs. Joselyn Ipock of Bridgeton EHC presented the Attendance Gavel; Mrs. Louis Hodges of Dover- Shown above are Mrs. Margaret Watson and daughter, Betty Gwyn Ipock, who modeled clothing made by Mrs. Watson for the fashion show. Moseley Creek EHC presented Club Achievement Awards; Mrs. Elma Pugh of Glenburnie EHC presented the Reading Certificates; Mrs. Jem Chandler of Farm Life EHC presented the Cancer Competition Award; Mrs. Emma Rke, County Cultural Arts Council presented crafts for National Awards; and Mrs. Mary Stallings of Drafters Klatch EHC, presented area meeting attendance awards. After the awards ceremony Mrs. Donald Witherington of the Vance EHC made many of those attending happy by presenting them with some beautiful door prizes.
