Wt8t Cfwn HIghllghtt, April 22,1 M2 „ _ VANCEBORO V HimiQfcllS- ^ Mr. and Mrs. Melvin S. Adams Silver Anniversary Celebrated The Silver Wedding Anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin S. Adams, hosted by Mr. and Mrs. Stan Pinkos, was attended by many friends and relatives. The guests were greeted by Mr. and Mrs. Milton Holmes. Mrs. Michael Wiley attended the register. In the receiving line were Mr. and Mrs. Stan Pinkos, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin S. Adams, and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Franks. Mrs. lone Newby invited the guests to the refreshment table. The cake was cut by Mrs. Plum Mills. The punch was poured by Mrs. J. B. Forrest. Under the supervision of Mrs. Kenneth Jones, helping with the food were Mrs. Edd Fuller, Mrs. Clyde Gaskins and Mrs. Lonnie Long. Mrs. Patricia Stroud registered the gifts. Assisting her with unwrapping and displaying the gifts, were Mrs. Steve Ipock, Mrs. Bobby Adams, Mrs. Nan Flake, and Mrs. Donald Edwards. The opening prayer was by Mr. Stan Pinkos. At 4:45 p. m. in the Chapter Room of the Vanceboro Masonic Lodge, Mr. and Mrs. Melvin S. Adams repeated their wedding vows with Rev. Ellis Bedsworth of Bethel N. C., who officiated at their marriage 25 years ago. The ceremony was by candlelight. Mr. Bobby Adams and Mr. Milton Holmes were ushers. The music and songs were by Mrs. Peggie Evans, Mrs. Melba Hawks and Mr. Jason Lilly. The songs were “What a Difference You Make in My Life”, “Love Me Tender”, and “One Day at a Time”. Mr. and Mrs. Milton Holmes said the goodbyes. White and the late Mr. Carroll P. White of Vanceboro, and Kenneth Jackson Heath, Jr., son of Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth J. Heath of Grifton, N.C. were married Saturday, April 10th at the home of Mrs. Carrol P. White with Rev. Ralph Bennett officiating. She was given in marriage by her, mother. The wedding took place at an improvised alter on a bridge over the swimming pool surrounded by floating candles and baskets of white glads and mums. “Love the World Away”, “The Wedding Prayer”, “Endless Love”, was sung by Marion Allen and Clara Lou Ipock. Sandra McCandless was the pianist. Miss White, escorted by her brother, Butch White, wore a white organza gown with chantilly lace sleeves and neckline trimmed in seed pearls with an organza bow in back. On her head, she wore a picture hat trimmed in chantilly lace and seed pearls with a finger-tip veil. She carried a lace fan with six red roses. Maid of Honor was Glory Potter. She wore a light blue long evening gown with jacket trimmed with lace and carried a long stemmed red rose. Bridesmaids were Brenda Provost, sister of the bride; Kathy Smith, sister of the bride; Teresa Clark; Gloria White, sister-in-law of the bride. Dawn Parrish, niece of the bride, was the Junior Bridesmaid. Kelly Lancaster and Elisha Jolly were the Flowergirls. They wore blue dresses with white pinafores and carried baskets with red and white rose petals. Mark Wetherington was Best man. Ushers were Mike Baldree, half brother of the bridegroom; Tim Wetherington, David Provost, Andy Maxey and Jimmy Sutton. Brad White, brother of the bride, was Junior Usher. The bride’s mother’s dress was long mauve rose with a jacket. She wore a corsage of white carnations. The bridegroom’s mother wore a beige dress with jacket. She wore a corsage of white carnations. A reception was given by the bride’s family at the home of the bride . The table was decorated with a cloth crocheted by the bride’s grandmother, centered with a silver vase filled with red and white carnations on a mirror tile surrounded by candles in crystal holders. Mrs. Frances Tetterton and Mrs. Neil Asby, aunts of the bride, assisted with the reception. The bride left on a wedding trip to Atlantic Beach wearing a brown suit with an orange blouse. The bride and bridegroom are seniors at West Craven High School. C W F Meeting The Christian Women’s Fellowship of Vanceboro Christian Church met on Wednesday, April 14th, at 7:30 p.m. in the church fellowship hall. Mrs. Linda Chesson, president, presided and welcomed those present. Mrs. Clara Lou Ipock, worship chairman, read the scripture - Matthew 13:1-10, and used the topic, “Sowing Seeds” for the program. She said, “what kind of seeds have we sown today? The seeds of life concerns our fellowman. Were they good or destructive? Our seeds will bear fruit. Do we care about someone else’s life? We can’t erase. We will reap.” An offering was taken and prayer followed. The Service Chairman, Mrs. Virginia Johnson, gave a report on services rendered during the month. There were five Daily Bible Readers and six bookair read reported. The Emergency Committee gave a report and all joined in the discussion. There was a report from the District C.W.F. which was held recently in New Bern. There were several suggestions given to make a more successful group. The president read several tips for leadership ability. The group voted to change our year from the old fiscal year July-June to the calender year Jan.-Dee. Voted to cook 40 lbs. of potatoes for the Rescue Squad, May 22. Eight members are to cook cakes & pies. There was a discussion on beginning different circles. Subject was tabled. The C.W.F. benediction was repeated in unison and the group was dismissed. Hostesses for the month were Hazel Huff, Clara Lou Ipock and Ruth Beamon. Refreshments of home made prune cake, nuts and soft drinks were served. 6th Anniversary The St. John Young Adult Choir is having their 6th Anniversary the fourth Sunday in April at 6:00 p. m. aTr the St. John M. B. Church in the Epworth community. Everyone is invited to attend. Meeting There will be a week’s meeting at Queen’s Chapel Church starting Monday, April 26 - Friday, April 30, 1982 at 7:30 p. m. The speaker for the week will be Rev. Douglas Cagdell from Greenville, N. C. All are invited. Personal Notes Mr. and Mrs. Webster Butler, Mr. and Mrs. Abie Cleve and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Cleve attended the Azalea Festival in Wilmington. While there, they also visited with Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Jordan. Gospel Singing The New Life Singers from Chocowinity First Baptist Church will be at Reunion Chapel F. W. B. Church on Sunday, April 25th, at 7:00 p. m. The Rev. Willie Stilley is pastor. Everyone is invited to come and worship.
