Thursday, May 13, 1982 12 Pages 20 Cents The above picture shows on the left, the site of the 62nd Farm Life School Alumni Banquet and the new site for the 63rd banquet which is the new Farm Life Elementary School. Farm Life Alumni Ready For Banquet Over 200 Alumni are expected to turn out for the last Alumni Banquette be held in the original Farm Life Building. The members will be coming from all over the country for this big get-together of old friends on Friday night, May 14th at 7 o’clock in the Cafeteria at Farm Life School. The building in which the banquet will be served will be removed during the summer months to make way for final touches to the new Farm Life Elementary School which is now near completion. Graduates of Farm Life from 1916 through 1971 and their guests are encouraged to attend the banquet and dance so it can be recorded as the largest turnout ever. A meal of Barbecue Chicken with vegetables and tea for your physical enjoyment, program by Brenda Ipock and Pat Wright for your mental enjoyment and a dance after the banquet for your social enjoyment are on the agenda for this traditional get- together. Plan now to take part in this Alumni Banquet. You will be glad to see all your friends and enjoy some fine hospitality. 50th Anniversary... .Class of 1932 The Farm Life Class of 1932 will be given special recognition of its 50th year at the 62nd Annual Alumni Banquet to be given on Friday night. May 14th, by the Farm Life Alumni Association. Mrs. Ethelene Farrell Butler , Abie and Bill Cleve are extending an invitation to each of the graduates to a 50th year get together after the banquet. This will be a time to talk over the “good old, days” and say “Hello” to classmates. All 1932 graduates and their friends are invited to come by classroom #7 the first floor at Farm Life and say “Hello”. “We want to see how many can still fit in 9' A their old desk,” said Ethelene. The members of the 1932 class were Calton Barrow-deceased, Maggie Campbell, now living in Ayden as Mrs. Weyland McGlohon; Janie Causey, deceased, Otis Causey, deceased; Abe Cleve, now living in Vanceboro as a merchant; Bill Cleve, now living in Vanceboro as a merchant; Hubert Dudley, deceased; Helen Duguid, now living in Kinston as a druggist, Ethelene Farrell, now living in Vanceboro as Mrs. Webster Butler, Otha Gaskins, deceased; Larry Hill, deceased; Edgar Laughinghouse, retired, now living in South Carolina, John Robinson ,deceased, Joe Simpson, now living in Vanceboro as a merchant; Margaret Summered now living on Rt. 2, Vanceboro as Mrs. J.B. Moredith; Pearl Toler, now living in New Bern as Mrs. Bruce Edwards; Mary Grey Wetherington, now living in New Bern as Mrs. William Gaskins; and Edna Wiley, now living in Newport News, Va., as Mrs. Edna Greco. The faculty for 1932 was S.L. Homewood, Principal; Ruth Abbott; Lela Colvin (Mrs. Joyner); Ruth Gardner; Flora Homewood; Julia Lancaster; L.G. Matthis; and Dean Patterson. Two of these teachers, Mrs. Colvin Joyner and Ruth Gardner, still live near Vanceboro. Ethelene Butler states that the teachers were wonderful to them and that Mrs. Colvin Joyner’s book, “Fond Mem’ry Turns to Thee” was very helpful as she tried to contact the 1932 graduates. When Mrs. Butler was asked about class president, class flower, annual, class song, class mascot, and graduation, she replied. “We were too poor to have all those things.” She did tell us that the girls wore blue skirts and white sweaters. “The boys dressed in the best they had, which wasn’t much,” added Mrs. Butler. Congratulations Class of 1932 Advance Forestry Team Wins On Wednesday, May 5, the West Craven FFA placed first in the Seashore Federation Forestry Contest. Other schools participating in the contest were West Carteret, Pamlico, and East Carteret. The Forestry contest involves Tree Identification, Pulpwood Estimation, Saw Log Estimation, and Timber Thinning. Members on the team are r(>styIents in the Advanced Forestry L-R: David Franklin, Jeff Taylor, Aaron Reed. Keul Whitford. Class at West Craven taught by Agriculture Instructor, Henry Pasour. Members of the West Craven team were Keul Whitford, Jeff Taylor, David Franklin and Aaron Reed. Keul Whitford was high scorer for the event with 337 out of 400 possible points. The win entitles West Craven FFA to compete in the District II Forestry Contest at Kenansville, Thursday, May 13th. Notice ! Use the May Coupons from May 6th Issue, Page 12.
