Bobby Johnson was the big winner with a Ist place in Ball Throw-86 feet; 1st place in the Hurdles; 2nd place Standing Broad Jump; 2nd place Discus Throw with 27 feet; and 2nd place 220 Meter Race. Charlie Lee took 1st place in the Discus and Joey Register took 2nd place in the 220 Meter Race. Other Cubs attending the Olympics from Pack 58 were Brynn Thomas, Willard Crain, and Paul Lancaster. Events of the Olympics were Ball Throw, Hurdles, Discus Throw, 50 Yard Dash, 220 Meter Race, and Javelin Throw. Linda Lee is Cub Leader and Lee Johnson Cubmaster of Pack 58. Senior Citizens Dinner By BARBARA FORREST Oak Grove FWB Church will hold its annual Senior Citizens Dinner, Saturday, June 5, at 7:00. All local senior citizens interested in good Christian fellowship and a delicious dinner should attend this annual event held in the Fellowship Hall of Oak Grove FWB Church. Gifts for the oldest guest and a door prize will be given away. And senior citizens, be prepared to join in on a fun question game! Ping Pong Contest Kendall Gaskins, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmo Gaskins of Vanceboro, won first place. He received a ping pong paddle and will hold the trophy until the next tournament. Runners up were Harold Ambrose and Lynn Drake. Yard Sale The Vanceboro United Methodist Women are having a yard sale Saturday, June 5,1982, at Pat’s Store on the corner at the Stoplight. Time 8:30 til 2:00 p. m. The proceeds will go to the Church Building Fund. Vanceboro Merchant Recovering James P. Harriett recently suffered a slight paralysis of hjs face and right side. He is recover ing at his home in Washington, N. C. Mr. Harriett is looking forward to getting back to work. He is owner and manager of Harriett’s Laundry and Cleaners in Vanceboro. During his illness Mr. and Mrs. James Harriett, his parents, will operate the business and bring you the same kind and courteous service his customers have come to expect. Poster Contest By BARBARA FORREST Children from the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Grade classes recently participated in a poster contest held by the Conservation Department of the Vanceboro Junior Woman’s Club. 'The .children were asked to draw posters advertising the Yard Beautification Contest held May 23rd. Winners are: Grade 3 - First Place: Cathy Simpson - Second Place; Steven Harris - Third Place; Reed Clark - Most Creative: Brynn Thomas - Honorable Mention; Jermaine Chapman, Keesha Gardner, Sharon Coward, Elizabeth Townsend. Grade 4 - First Place; Tina Mayo - Second Place: Brian McOmber - Third Place; Cindi Wetherington - Honorable Mention; Sharlet. Grade 5 - First Place: Kim Purser - Second Place: Shannon Jones - Third Place; Deanna Haddock - Honorable Mention: Lamon Harris, Kathy Karman, Billie Jo Anderson. All the posters were placed in Cannon’s Variety Store for display. Judges were busy trying to find the most beautiful yard - and they did .... It belongs to Mr. & Mrs. Otis Buck who live at the far end of Buck Lane. The three Honorable Mentions were: Mr. & Mrs. Walter Taylor and Mr. & Mrs. Leon Fornes, both in Stewart Park, and Mr. & Mrs. Bobby Barrow located near Dudley’s Crossroads on Hwy 43. Child Restraint Program By BARBARA FORREST The Public Affairs Department of the Vanceboro Junior Woman’s Club is sponsoring a “Child Restraint Program” Tuesday night, June 8th, at 7:30 p.m. at the Vanceboro Fire Department. Sgt. Swanson from the Greenville District Highway Patrol office will be presenting the slide program. Everybody who has small children or who plan to have some in the future is urged to attend.
