Q ^ Juniper Chapel Cookout Chicken & Chuckles—Rev. Stanley Buck, left, tries to learn the secrets of good cooking from Robert Ramsey, Master Chef de la Poultry. . . Sunday evening was a great time to be at Juniper Chapel F. W.B. Church. The church Youth Group put on a chicken dinner for all members. Member Peggy Buck expected about 70 hungry people to show up but word got out that member Robert Ramsey was one of the cooks and over 80 showed up. Nothing beats a Robert Ramsey Down East bar-b- que and the 25 broilers soon disappeared along with massive quantities of baked beans, cole slaw, collards and gallons of iced tea. The Youth Group won $95 from Rollerland Skating Rink in New Bern on church night by having the largest turnout of skaters over other churches-63 skaters in all. This money was used for the cookout. After dinner, about 20 young people from very tiny to age 19 entertained the adults with Bible passages in sign language and singing. ... Have you ever had your dentist tell you he was using a “temporary filling” and wondered why? No, my friend, it is not a ploy so he can get a second crack at you. This is a perfectly proper dental procedure. It is referred to as “indirect capping”, and is used in cases where the nerve (or pulp) would be exposed if all the decay were removed from the cavity. Regarded as a conservative treatment, the application of medicated cement in the temporary filling helps the pulp of the tooth to repair itself by contain ing the decay and allowing the buildup of a wall of tooth structure between the pulp and the decayed material. This is a “holding action’’. When your dentist removes the temporary filling, he may take an X-ray to deter mine if the pulp has healed. If so, the balance of the decay is removed, and a permanent restora tion, or filing, can be placed in the tooth. In summary, your dentist, is trying to keep your tooth alive, avoiding the need for a root-canal filling, pulp capping, or extraction of the tooth.
