Again, penalties was the down fall of the Eagles as two first half touchdowns were called back as receiver Linwood Harris was called for offensive pass interference on both plays. Harris was called for his first one in the first quarter with the Eagles deep in North Lenoir’s territory. In the second quarter. West Craven recovered a Hawk fumble at their own 44-yard line. On the next play, quarterback Anthony Wesley hit Harris for what looked like a 66-yard touchdown pass but it was not to be as Harris was penalized for the second time. In the third quarter, the Hawks put the first points on the scoreboard when Derrick Wotsen blocked a West Craven punt, picked the ball up and raced 46- yards for the touchdown. Paul Dixon put the Eagles deeper in trouble in the fourth quarter as he scored on a 49-yard run. With 6:47 left in the game, finally got the offense going as Norman Becton scored on a 21-yard after a 61 yard drive. After holding the Hawk offense, the Eagles were on the move again but a fourth down attempt fell short. The Eagles had one shot left to tie the game after recovering a North Lenoir fumble with :58 seconds remaining but with :13 seconds left, the Hawks intercepted a Wesley pass to down their hopes. West Craven, with a record of 3-3-1, travel to Morehead tomorrow night to face the Patriots of West Carteret, who lost a tough battle by a point to Havelock. Jo-elle Brown Stats W. Craven N.
