, i 14, Wett Craven Hlghilflhtt, October 21,1982 Top Pork Cooker Was Donald Ward Of Cove City 2nd Place Terry Kite Of Vanceboro Third Place Tony Hamil ton of Bridge- ton I Craven County Rescue Squad’s Second Annual Pig- Cooking Contest A Big Success Cystic Fibrosis Bike-A- Thon Scheduled for, Saturday, October 30 ^ A bike-a-thon sponsored by Vanceboro Junior Woman’s Club for benefit of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been scheduled for Saturday, October 30. Registration will begfin at 9:00 a.m. at Juniper Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. The event is open to all youngsters and adults who wish to help support the fight against cystic fibrosis, the number one genetic killer of children and young adults in the United States. There is at present no cure for the disease, which affects approximately one in 1800 births. According to Gwendolyn Morris, chairman, those who wish to participate in the bike-a-thon should obtain sponsor sheets from Vanceboro Pharmacy and Cannon’s Variety Store. Participants should^ then solicit pledges from their relatives, friends, 01%. ' neighbors for each mile they ride. The total amount to be collected from their sponsors after the event is based on the number of miles each rider completes. Prizes will be awarded to the riders who raise the most funds. Everyone who collects $30.00 or more will receive a CF T-shirt. Riders may also compete for three statewide prizes to be awarded to the three top money-raisers in North Carolina: 1st prize - An ATARI Video Computer System 2nd prize - a Panasonic Digital Clock/Radio (AM/FM) 3rd prize - a Polaroid “Button” Camera For further information about the bike-a-thon contact Gwendolyn Morris at 244-0178.
