First Runner Up was Mrs. Thelma Brinkley of New Bern Police Department, Second Runner Up was Mrs. Rittie Norfleet of Vanceboro, Mrs. Christine Kelsey of Harlowe was selected as most talented and Mrs. Catherine Midgette of Vandemere as Ms. Vogue by Judges from State Legislative: Hon. Daniel Lilley, Hon. C.S. Barker and Hon. Gerald Anderson. Mr. L.R. Morgan, City Alderman presented the awards to the winning contestants. Mr. Lee Kanipe with TV Washington, N.C. was Master of Ceremonies, Mr. Ken Tendyal, Channel 9 TV, Greenville, N.C. Narrated Ms. Vogue Competition and Mrs. Thelma Chadwick, Executive Director of United Tri-County Senior Citizens’, Inc. welcomed the participants and more than 500 guests. Mrs. Madeline Winston, 1981-82 Winner, Crowned Mrs. Van Houten. Other participants were: Mrs. Della Best, Mrs. Ruth Brown, Mrs. Dollie Crowell, Ms. Olivia Grady, Mrs. Filia Johnson, Mrs. Louisiana Jones, Mrs. Rittie Norfleet, Mrs. Carol Millard, Mrs. Erma Roberts, Mrs. Alvania Sanders, Mrs. Henrietta Simmons, Mrs. Olivia Simmons, Mrs. Ida Smith, Mrs. Melvina Spicer, Mrs. Mary Ann Smith, Mrs. Hattie Williams and Sadie Hill. Middle & High Oct. 25-29 Monday: Meat loaf w/tomato sauce, maca roni & cheese and baked cornbread, bar-b-que pork in bun, chef salad, cabbage and carrot slaw, seasoned leafy greens, buttered lima beans, congealed fruit salad, milk. Tuesday: Spaghetti w/meat sauce & garlic bread, luncheon meat & cheese sandwich, chef salad, tossed green salad. French tries, seasoned mixed vegetables, spiced applesauce, milk.
