Clifton was honored at a dinner hosted by his parents, Mr. and Mra Daniel Wetheringfton, and WM also a gfuest of honor at a party given by friends in New Bern. The party was a joint celebration honoring Clifton and Miss Darlene Rudd, a friend of Clifton's, who turned sixteen this week. Several Dover folks celebrated birthdays in the mmth of April. Mrs. Frances Whitley can verify thia Belated Happy Birthday wishes to all! SICK At the time of this writing, Ms, Donna Wall is in Lenoir Memorial Hospital; Ms. Minnie Pearl Oakes is in Qiaven County Hospital. CHURCHES St John's Disciples of Christ Church observed its most recent quarterly meeting April 17 with several persons who traveled a considerable distuice to attend. Among the Dover natives Washington, D.C. were Simon Canady, Otis King, Gwen Coley, Lula Jc^nson Spotford, Vern Spotford, and Cl^on Johnson. From Baltimore, Maryland were Laura Johnson Meadows, Mrs. and Mrs. ene Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Johnson & family, and Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Jdinson & fismily. From Rocky Mount were Reverend and Mrs. Richard Johnson and from Havelock was Mrs. Julia Ann Stancilwith her daughters. On a sadder note, many of these folks were here on a double missiwi, the second part of that mission was to attend the funeral of Theodore Outlaw. SCHOOL AFFAIRS We're Proud Again!! Fort Barnwell Elementaiy Schod had several students in contention for honors at the Special Olympics held at Havelock High School on April 16. L.D. Teacher, Ma Jane Price, accompanied the EMH Students and the students came back bearing many honora The winners were: Kimberly Hardee, daughter of Mra Norma Hardee, took 2nd Place in Softball Throw and 3rd Hace in Standing Broad Jump. Sadie Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Johnny J«ies took 1st Place in Softball Throw and 1st Hace in Standing Broad Jump. Katina Mitchell, daughter of Mrs. Wilma Mitdiell, took IstPlace in 50 meter dash and 2nd Place in Standing Long Jump. Pamela Moore, daughter of Mrs. Nina Moore took 1st Place 50 Meter Dash and 1st Place in Softball Throw. Stewart Younger, son of Mrs. Gertie Younger took 1st Place in Standing Long Jump and 1st Place in 60 Meter Dash. Please give these ^Idren due congratulations when yousee them. April 20 was National Teacher's Day and Secretary's Day. Port Barnwell School took to this like a dude to water and did it up right! The beautiful cake, an apple for each, and a lovely special table. Principal Gilbert and Secretary "Miss Kitty" Jones presented the teachers with "World's Best Teacher" coffee mugfs and the aides with small picture frames. "Miss Kitty", a vital functioneer at the school, was presented with sevaral plants, a hand-painted welcome sign for her home, a bud vase, candy, and a home- baked cinnamon roll. What more could have been done?!! April 19 the Public Relations Committee met to discuss the first issue of a school newspaper scheduled for distribution on May 10. Students are submitting tentative names for the newspaper, all classes and students may submit articles In addition. Principal's List, Honor Roll Stud ents, and many more items of interest will be in our newspaper. It will sell for the low, low price of 59. Parents, please buy this for your information which will help you appreciate all school doings. Aprfl 19, Mra Dudley's classtookatriptoNew Bern. Thetripwasplanned todeliberatelyrelate to thecareers program under study by the class. Places visited included a bank, the jail, and the Firemen's Museum. Lastweek was Natiwial Volunteer Week. Fort Barnwell has 17 regular volunteers plus several occassional volunteera They were honored at a special "Volunteer Recognition" ceremony at pro on April 26. Mrs. Debra Humphrey and Mrs. Bonnie Winstead were recognized and awarded beautiful lapel pins at New Bern High School on April 22 for their "over one-hundred hours service" as volunteers. TRAVkiERS From Dover attendingtiie"Open House" and Air Show performances on April 23 at Cherry Point Marine Air Base were Mr. and Mrs. Allen Humphrey and sons, Robbie and Roger; and Mr. and Mrs. Randall Creeland Pam.
