North Carolina, Thursday, May 5, 1983 Phone 244-0780 Farm Life Alumni To Hold Banquet Hans are being made for the upcoming Alumni Banquet to be held in the New Cafeteria at the Vanceboro Far m Life Elementary School on Friday, May 16, at 7:00. The Alumni are in for a special treat this year since this is the first year the banquet has been held in the new facility. The cafeteria has a capacity to seat 250 people, so make plans now to fill it to capacity. Mr. Richard Bowers, principal, was contacted by telephone and he stated "we are looking for many of the Alumni and friends to be on hand for this big night.” He plans to have the main buildings open from 6-7 p.m. for anyone who has not seen the new facility. Many of the classes are planningget-togethers during and after the banquet. The 1933 class will be celebrating its 50th anniversary. You know you willwant to be on hand to see these friends. All former graduates and those who attended Farm Life High School but graduated from another high school are invited to attend and bring a guest. President Jimmy Huff urges all alumni members to come and epjoy an interesting program, a delicious meal and a time of reunion with former classmates. Although Farm Life School is no longer a high school, the alumni want to keep this an active organization. Plans have been made for the Annual Dance in the gym after the banquet. Make plans to take in a few soft steps after the banquet. The alumni are in for another treat because this year the Vanceboro Junior Woman’s Club is sponsoring Vanceboro’s First Annual Strawberry Festival on May 14 & 16. There will be games, car show, auction and talent show. Make plans to spend the weekend. Vanceboro Strawberry Festival Everyone is beginning to talk about the First Annual Strawberry Festival, May 14 & 16 in Vanceboro. The Vanceboro Jr. Woman’s Club is sponsoring the Strawberry Festival this year. They are hoping this will be an annual event to promote Vanceboro to all our friends far and near. Any organization, club, or individual is eligible to enter any money making booth for the Strawberry Festival. Cake sales, craft sales, concession stand, talent show, and auction sale are just a few of the booths already registered for the Strawberry Festival. Don’t wait, the booth you were planning might already be registered. All you have to do is call 244-0178or 633-7100 and ask for Mrs. Perry Morris. She will register your booth and tell you the amount of your entry fee. Games are being planned for young and old alike so everyone will have something to do. A big feature of this year’s Strawberry i'estival is the Car Show which will be held in the Wachovia Bank parking lot. Mr. Jim Pepper is chaiiman of the Car Show. If you want to enter a car, call him today. He reports about forty cars already lined up for the show. He has space for :hirty five more-pass the word to your car buff friends and get them in onthis exciting show. The car show is being sponsored by the Vanceboro Merchants. On Saturday night. May 14, there will be a talent show held in the Faim Life Elementary School auditorium. Anyone with or without talent can sign up for the show. There will be fun for everyone, so begin planning to be in Vanceboro all day Saturday May 14 for the First Annual Strawberry Festival. The annual Yard Beautification Contest sponsored by the Vanceboro Junior Woman’s Club will be held in conjunction with the Strawberry Festival. Yards will be judged on Wednesday, May 11, and the winners will be announced during the weekend events. From 4r6 p.m. the JWC will have supper prepared. You can pick up your supper in front of ■ Pat’s Building downtown and on the lot across from bank. VICA Student, ^ Place g Winner Robert Barr Robert Barr, won of Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Barr of Route 1, Box 196,Vanceboro, N.C. placed second in the STATE GRAPHICS CONTEST held in Fayetteville on April 22, at Douglas Byrd Senior High School. Robert’s skill involved negative analysis, a one color press run, sketch and art design, masking negatives, a comprehensive written examination, and exposing and developing offset plates. Robert is a member of the West Craven High School VICA Club, who has trained under the supervision and guidance of Mr. Dennis A. Stokes, instructor of Graphics.
