National Honor Inducts New Members Local ladies demonstrate the art of Quilting at West Craven Middle Schod Open House.” North CarolinaHeritage Week was celebrated April 25-29 at West Craven Middle School. During this week, students and staff participated in many activities with local craftspeople and resource persons. Among these activities were: Basketweaving, spinning, candle-making, quilting, wreaths from grapevines, pine needle crafts, woodworking, and nature crafts. On display throughout the school were antiques, museum paintings, doll collections, water color paintings, pottery and Shaker Furniture. Students were entertained by a Recorder Music Group, a barbershop quartet, a handbell group and a local clogging grroup. Many local residents attended the Open Houseon Motriay night, April 25, 1983. After visiting with teachers, visitors viewed antiques and were entertained by the Craven County Cloggers. The North Carolina Heritage Week celebration was a great success and students became cognizant .of the importance of their heritage. On Monday, April 25, the West Craven chapter of the National Honor Society held their annual induction. Jodie Walker, president, gave the welcome to the new inductees and invited guests. Angie Jones presented the invocation. Four members gave brief presentations on desired characteristics of a National Honor Society member Lee Kirkman on character, Bridget Sutton on Scholarship, Stephanie Seigler on Leadership, and Queenie Beckwith on Service. Robert E. Jolly, principal of West Craven, gave his congratulatory remarks to the new members and a welcome to the guests. Refreshments were served after the ceremony.
