New Bern
Takes Two
New Bern’s first meeting with Havelock proved
disastrous to Havelock. The Bears came away with a
71-45 victory. As usual, Derrick Johnson led in score in
this game and the game against Kinston. New Bern
avenged its only loss by the season by slipping by
Kinston 48-43. New Bern is now 3-1.

Eagles Win
West Craven Eagles Girls had a tough time with
Washington dropping two games to them. Angie Oates
led the way in the first game and Charlotte Smith led
the second. Oates had 12 points while Smith had 9 in
the second game. Washington won both games
decisively 47-36 and 44-36.

After losing their first two games to New Bern and
Jones Senior, the Eagles of West Craven beat the
Washington Pam Pack twice to even their record at 2-
2.
In the first game West Craven had no trouble
putting away the Pam Pack leading by as many as 20
in the fourth quarter. Washington was able to cut that
lead to eight but the Eagles held on for a 62-46 win.
Tim Cox led the way with 15 points.
In their second meeting the Eagles combined spurts
of good and bad playing to pull ott a closer game. 'Tied
at 52 with less than five minutes West Craven went to
their pressure defense and came out with a 69-60 win.

Third Place Winner
James Dixon led the Eagles to two victories over the
J.V. Pam Pack, Scoring 16 in the first game and 21 in
the second. The first game was a fairly easy victory for
the Eagles who took home a 64-55 victory. In the
second game. Coach Clay Jordan substituted freely
and had 10 players to score in their 67-62 victory. The
JV Eagles have the best record of any Eagle team so
far this seaspn.

Christmas Bulletin Board
Contest at WCHS
To show the Yuletide season at West Craven High
School, Mrs. Stock’s art club sponsored a bulletin
board contest using the word Christmas. Each
participating club was issued a letter and they were
used to build the bulletin board. The VICA club,
advisor Dennis Stokes, was rated 1st place; the FBLA,
Ms. Shirley Erikson, Advisor, was rated 2nd place;
and Drama Club, Ms. Melba Hargett, Advisor, and
National Honor Society, Ms. Margaret Gray, Advisor,
shared the 3rd place rating.
