Lieutenant Governor James C. Green, a major figure
in local and State government for almost three
decades, will announce his candidacy for governor of
North Carolina Friday, January 13.
The announcement ceremony is scheduled to take
place at 11:46 a.m., on the south lawn of the State
Capitol.
One of the largest groups of supporters ever
assembled for a candidacy announcement is expected
to hear the two-term lieutenant governor officially
launch his 1984 gubernatorial bid.
Following ceremonies on the Capitol grounds, Green,
and his supporters will proceed down the Fayetteville
Street Mall to the State Board of Elections office for
the official filing of candidacy.
A campaign rally is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in
Dorton Arena, on the State Fairgrounds. Green is
expected to make additional remarks at the rally, and
several groups of musicians have volunteered to
provide entertainment.

Senator Joe Thomas
Announcement By
Senator
Joe Thomas
Today I am filing for another term to continue
serving you as your State Senator for the Third
Senatorial District, which includes Carteret, Craven
and Pamlico Counties.
The election for this office will be held in the
Democratic Primary on May 8, 1984, and I will need
your vote and support.
In the six years I have served the Third District, I
have been fortunate in obtaining Committee
assignments where our voice can be heard on the issues
that are especially important to our area. I am
currently serving as the Chairman of the Natural and
Economic Resources and Wildlife Committee and as
the Vice Chairman of the Transportation Committee.
I also serve on the Agriculture Committee and the
Base Budget Committee, as well as several others
which directly affect us locally.
As residents of this special part of North Carolina,
we all know the delicate balance that must be
maintained between our environmental needs, our
agricultural needs, and our needs for more jobs in
industry and business. Because of the unique dangers
to our lifestyle on the coast, I have concentrated a great
deal of effort in assuring that this delicate balance is
maintained.
In this endeavor, I am currently serving as Co-
Chairman of the Hazardous Waste Study Committee,
the Neuse River Water Quality Management Plan
Study Committee, and the Peat Mining and Land
Clearing Study Committee, and I am a member of the
Water Resources and Pollution Control - North
Carolina and Virginia Study Committee.
I have enjoyed serving all of the people of this District
for the last three terms, and I am anxious to continue
serving as your Senator.
As your legislator, I pledge to each of you that I will
always work diligently to serve the many needs of you,
the people, in our Counties. Our needs are great, but
with all of us working together, we will make our area
a better place to live, work, and raise our families.
I promise that I will do my best. Your vote and your
support will be greatly appreciated, ., .

Parking-Landmark
Repair - Noise
Parking, landmark repair, and noise in downtown
area were the main topics of discussion during the
regular town meeting in Vanceboro Monday night.
Parking on streets without designated parking is
becoming a problem on some of the narrow streets in
Vanceboro. Residents are being asked to refrain from
leaving their autos parked on the asphalt. If vehicle is
clear of the asphalt street, the police commissioner
stated it would be considered clear of traffic and would
not be violating the town’s parking ordinance.
One of Vanceboro’s landmark houses came under
discussion during the town meeting. It was stated that
the house was in real need of repair and that the
existing damage to the porch section is a hazard,
especially to a child that might venture onto the porch.
The town aldermen agreed to approach the property
owner to make the necessary repair and thus eliminate
the hazard and make downtown be more attractive.
