Mr. William “Bud” Ipock, Mrs. Joyce Ipock,
and Leslie Wright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Wright of Vanceboro and a senior at West
Craven High School, attended the 50th
Anniversary Competition sponsored by the
North Carolina Hair Dresser and Cosmetology
Assoc, which was held in Greensboro, N.C. at the
Four Seasons Holiday Inn on February 25th.
Mr. Ipock entered the competition, and Miss
Wright was his model. They won 1st place in the
Total Professional Business Woman Look which
included hair, cosmetics, dress etc.
Mr. Ipock operates Joyce’s Hair Styling on Rt.
2, Vanceboro.

The town meeting was held
Monday night, March 5th with
only three citizens in
attendance. The meeting was
called to order by Mayor
Jimmie Morris and Howard
Tyre opened the meeting with
prayer.
The minutes of the last
meeting were read and
approved. The expense sheet
was passed out to the alderman
for their approval. After sorhe
rather serious discussion of
several items on the list of
expenditures, the alderman
oted to pay the monthly bills.
In other discussion a
possibility of having a $27,000
water softener tank for the
water system built locally was
discussed and further
information would be
available at the next meeting.
The aldermen accepted a
check for $200 from the Jr.
Woman’s Club to be used for
building a 20ft. bridge to the
picnic area in the town park.
The aldermen turned down
the opportunity to make a
donation to the Arts Council
tating that the policy of the
wn is not to donate to
organizations out of tax
monies.
On Thursday, March 1,
1984, the West Craven High
School Graphics Department,
under the supervision of Mr.
Dennis A. Stokes, entered the
District II Graphics Skills
Contest. Ms. Shelda Ramsey
placed first in this event and
will be entering State
Competition on April 12, 13
and 14, in Greensboro, N.C,
Ms. Ramsey competed in an
artistic advertising and offset
printing contest.

Girl Scouts at Cookie Sale. They will be selling cookies again
Friday, March 9th in front of Kite’s Supermarket.

The Girl Scouts under the direction of Judy Freeman, leader
for Cadets 7,8 and 9th grade girls, and Jackie Dudley, leader for
the Junior Girl Scouts are busy selling 122 cases of cookies.
When asked how sales were going, Ms. Freeman said, “Fine,
we orily have 13 more cases to sell and they will probably be
gone by the weekend.”
The cookie sale has a wide variety of cookies to suit everyone’s
taste. They have Peanut Butter, Chocolate, Oatmeal, and Samoa
cookies in their sales kit.
The proceeds of the cookie sales will be used to take the 15 girls
to King’s Dominion.
'The troop meets every other Monday night at Farm Life
Elementary School.

Logan Accepts
Hospital Position
Meeting
The position as Craven
County’s Hospital president
has been accepted by Donald
P. Logan of Albemarle.
Mr, Logan replaces former
hospital president John
McDaniel who took an
executive director’s position in
a private hospital ip Alabama
and he left Craven County
Hospital in Feb.
He has served as chief
executive at Stanley General
Hospital in Albermarle, a 130-
bed privately owned hospital,
for 10 years. Prior to that he
was assistant director of
ambulatory services in a 600-
bed Columbia, S.C. Hospital
Craven County Hospital is a
254-bed public facility owned
by Craven County.
Residents of the town of
Vanceboro were unable to
attend the Block Grant
Meeting held Monday. The
above statement could be the
opening statement for a
political speech or it could be
the sign of the times. The
mayor stated that this type of
meeting is always poorly
attended.
The meeting is held to get
input from citizens of the
community as to what they
wish to do to improve the
community.
Another meeting will be
held on Monday night, March
19 at 8:00 p.m. in the town hall.
At that time citizens will again
be able to have a voice in the
community planning. This is
an opportunity for citizens to
help make plans for com
munity projects that will
benefit everyone.
