Over 150 Cub, Webelos, and Boy Scouts were on hand to show the story of Scouting. Troops and packs were given trophies for their effort in the show. Some troops displayed towers, monkey bridges, gateways, meal preparation, knot tying, tent pitching, utensil and food storage demonstrations. Troop 68 of Vanceboro, with a select group of scouts, brought home the “Gold” first place trophy for having the best display. Scouts participating from Troop 58 were Doug Lee, Keith Morris, Jerry Morris, Stacey Patter son, Charlie Lee, Willard Crain, Stacey Meadows, Brynn Thomas, and John Haar. Richard Cannon, Scoutmaster, and Michael Hodges, Assistant Scout master, were on hand to give assistance to the troop. Other troops attending were Troop 97, sponsored by Beech Grove Methodist Charge; Troop 299 sponsored by New Bern’s Lion Club; Troop 132 sponsored by Garber Metho dist Church; Troop 167 sponsored by Neuse Forest Presbyterian Church; Troop 11 sponsored by Minnesott Lion’s Club and Troop 13 sponsored by Centenary Methodist Church. Packs present for the scout show were Pack 13, Centenary Methodist Church; Pack 67, Neuse Forest Presbyterian Church; Pack 132, Garber Methodist Church; Pack 427, Bryan Chapel AME Zion, Cove city; Pack 231, West New Bern Presbyterian Church; Pack 641 Broad Creek Christian Church; and Trinity Methodist Church. The trophy for best pack display was awarded to pack 427. Ticket sales trophy winner for the pack went to Pack 427 with over 250 tickets Troop 68, Vanceboro, Winner of Best Troop display. Tower Building, Troop 97. sold and trophy to Troop 167 with over 300 tickets sold. In the kite flying contest trophies were presented to: Gregory Stewart, Pack 789, Chad Swiggart, Pack 132, James Hiner, Pack 132, smallest kite; Allen Worth- holmstead. Pack 67; Jason Cantwell and Tony Zymroy Pack 789, for largest kite; Bobby Edwards, Pack 67, Michael Rathhjen, Pack 789, and Mike Hargett Pack 427 for most original kite. District Executive Joe Cannon stated this was the best scout show and best attended of any scout shows in several years. Over 2200 tickets were sold for the show. He contributes good weather, good leadership, and good team work by troops and packs for the successful show.
