Summer Reading Game

Cove City-Craven County Public Library
The Vanceboro-Craven County Public Library and the Cove
City-Craven County Public Library are celebrating their annual
summer reading games during the month of July. This year the
theme for the reading programs is “North Carolina CelebratesI
1584-1984." Children in grades kindergarten through sixth are
invited to join the reading fun by registering at the Vanceboro or
Cove city Libraries on Monday, July 2.
Children may start reading in the program beginning July 2
and continue through July 25. Each participant will receive
materials featuring North Carolina symbols—from the state bird
to the Wright Brothers’ airplane. Those children reading at least
10 books in the required categories will receive certificates
signed by Miss North Carolina 1984 and the librarian. There will
be a winner in each grade level at each library. The winners will be
« the children who read and report on the most books during the
month of July. Prizes will be given out to the winners.
This year’s mascot for the 1984 Reading Program will be a life
size talking and singing beaver, designed by Barbara Avery of
Cove City. The beaver will appear at the Vanceboro library on
Wednesday, July 11 at 4:00 p.m. and at the Cove City Library on
Friday, July 6 at 2:30 p.m. Mary Ann Delamar and Buddy the
Beaver will sing North Carolina and tell North Carolina stories.
Special story hours will be planned every week at the two
libraries during July. The libraries will be closed on Wednesday,
July 4.

Lancaster Family
An early member of the Lancaster Family in this arqa was
Benjamin Lancaster. We believe he married Katie Ann Morrises
he administered land for the estate of Joseph Morris in 1791. His
children were St. Clair who married Susannah Bull and Jesse
who married Rachel Pollard, dau. of Jacob Pollard and Rhode.
Their marriage bond was Mar. 11,1805. Jesse and Rachel had 9
children.
1. David Lancaster married Fannie Giddens, marriage bond
Jan. 21, 1829.
2. St. Clair b. 1807 married Polly Ann Free, marriage bond Jan.
25, 1831.
3. Lacy Lancaster b. 1810 married Nancy Coleman, marriage
bond Jan. 9, 1839.
4. Jesse Lancaster b. 1812 married 1 st Celia Nelson, 2nd Nancy
Causey.
5. Jacob Lancaster b. 1814 married Mary Ann Coleman,
marriage bond Nov. 27, 1835.
6. Wiliiam Lancaster b. 1817 married 1st Susan Causey 1839,
2nd Louisa Phillips.
7. Winnifred Lancaster b. 1819 married James Clark, marriage
bond May 10, 1843.
8. Nancy Lancaster b. 1824 married Charles Butler, marriage
bond Sept. 6, 1844.
9. Sallie Lancaster b. 1828 married Church Williams, marriage
bond Feb. 12, 1853.
