Jort Barnwell Bulletin
By MRS. B. H. MITCHELL
The descendants of the late
Elizabeth and Sam Harris
gathered at the home of Mrs.
Viola Harris Lovick and her
niece who lives with her,
Eldress Ethel G. Mills, on
Saturday for the tenth family
reunion. Family members of
two or three generations came
to join in. A bus from the New
York area brought many while
others came on automobiles.
There seemed to be about
three hundred people
including friends from the
^fe|rounding area. Everyone
^^bared to be in high spirits
on the crisp cool day.
There was plenty of food and
refreshments for the entire
group. The group enjoyed
sharing their experiences in
life from early days up to the
present time.
Mrs. Lovick expressed a
deep concern of her gratitude
of seeing so many members of
the family together and she
gave praises to the Lord for his
care and keeping.
She is one of the nine
children who now survive out
of a family of twenty-one
children. They were reared on
a family farm in the Pitch Kettle
section of Craven County. Her
sister, Mrs. Lorena Gaskins
and her husband, Charlie, still
cultivate some of the family
farm.
The other brothers and
sisters in attendance were—
Mrs. Lorena Gaskins of
Vanceboro, N.C., Mrs. Martha
Gibbs of Maysville, N.C., Mrs.
Lillie Spencer of Baltimore,
Md., Mr. Willie (Buster) Harris
of Ft. Barnwell, N.C., Mrs. Rosa
White, Mrs. Ida Charity and
Mrs. Sarmantha Lenard ail of
Brooklyn, NY, also Mrs. Ziffie
West of Mount Olive, NC, Mrs.
West is one of the oldest and
may be in her late eighties.
There were family members
from many areas of the United
States and one member had
been a missionary in Africa, it
was reported that they had a
glorious time together.
