Gaskins to Attend the 4"H Congress
Some 38 delegates from 20
North Carolina counties will
attend the 63rd National 4-H
Congress Nov. 25-29 in
Chicago, III.
Among them is Beverly
Gaskins, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. William O. Gaskins, Jr. of
660 Antioch Road, New Bern,
NC.
The Tar Heel delegates won
the expense-paid trips as state
winners in a 4-H program or
activity.
While in Chicago, they will
compete for more than
$280,000 in educational
scholarships, valued at $750 to
$1,500 each and made
available by private sector
donors.
Planned and conducted by
the National 4-H Council and
the Agricultural Extension
Services of the state iand-grant
universities, the congress will
attract more than 1,600 4-H
members from across the
country.
The congress theme is “4-H:
Building on Experience” and it
challenges young people to
develop their fuli potential for
the betterment of self,
community, nation and world.
The congress program focuses
on the continued development
and growth of 4-H members.
The congress officially
opens on Sunday, Nov. 25, with
a general assembly. Judith K.
Hofer, president and chief
executive officer. May Com
pany, California, and a 4-H
aiumna, will be the keynote
speaker. The week’s program
will provide opportunities for
delegates to talk with leaders In
education, government,
industry and agriculture. The
4-H'ers will be honored at
recognition events hosted by
donors and will pursue current

workshops.
Educational and cultural

Chicago area are special

The annual national 4-H
fashion revue will be held

eight national 4-H alumni
winners, including Gov. James
B. Hunt, Jr., will be honored at

Care Week during the week of
November 25 to December 1.
This agency is also celebrating
its ten year anniversary.
During Home Care Week,
