Morris, Treasurer Nannette McKeeir ~ — Rescue Squad 15 President Danny Barror receives the Member of the Year award from Patsy Townsend Gilbert A Whitford receives , Fireman of the Year award frbmPresident Buddy Whitford. gKAbout fifty people gathered ”'^Fthe Caton Fire Department Fellowship Hall for the annual LSCVF’S annual Christmas dinner. Members, friends and guests enjoyed a steak supper with all the trimmings surrounded by Christmas decorations. Guests present for the occassion were Senator Joe Thomas and wife Linda, Representative Gerald Anderson and wife, Marie, Commissioner Roger Forrest and his'wife Frances, Richard L. Cannon Jr. Publisher, West ^Craven Highlights, and Mr. .^tt^orge Dimick and wife Vivian ^^ecial guests. Mr. Thomas, Mr. Anderson, and Mr. Forrest made remarks praising the fire fighters for their dedication and hard work during the year. Taylor Crowned Ms. Tri County 1985-86 "Peacock" Ipock receives appreciation award from Buddy Whitford for the many services he has rendered to the LSCVFD during the year. They congratulated the new officers of 1985. They are as follows. Chief Mike Dearin; Assistant Chief, Douglas Whitford;- Captain Askin Station, Ikie Gaskins; Lt. Jimmy Whitford ||; Captain Antioch Station, Steve Nelson- Lt., Terry Gaskins: Captain Caton Station: Lt., McRay Whitford: President, Jimmy Whitford: Secretary, Sheila Whitford: Treasurer Esse Mae Whitford; Special Treasurer, United Tri-County Senior Citizens', Inc. held it’s eleventh annual Ms. Tri-County Pageant on Saturday, Decmeber 14th, 1985 at the George Street Multi-Purpose Senior Citizens' Center. Mrs. Temple Taylor; Ms. Craven County was crowned Ms. Tri- County 1985-86. She received a trophy and a 12" television set, Mrs. Mae Dunn: Ms. Maysville (1st runner up) received a trophy and a toaster oven. Mrs. Lorena Gaskins: Ms. Vanceboro (2nd runner up) received a trophy and a gold cage clock. The other contestants received trophies. Mrs. Gertrude Jenkins: Ms. New Bern won most talented for a piano solo. She received a trophy. Mrs. Temple Taylor: Ms. Craven County also the won the Ms. Vogue Competition. She received a trophy for that category. The contestants were; Helen Campbell-Ms. Bridgeton; Julia Jones- Ms. Riverside: Temple Taylor-Ms. Craven County: Sadie Foye- Ms. Pollockr,Ville; Elena Jones-Ms. Pamlico County; Gertrude Jenkins-Ms' New Bern; Hattie Fonville-Ms. Pleasant Hill; Sadie Exxum-Ms. Dover; Lorena Gaskins-Ms. Vanceboro; Mae Dunn- Ms. Maysville; Ida Brown-Ms. Ft. Barnwell. There were approximately three hundred and fifty (350) people attending the evening of entertainment. Mrs. Thelma Chadwick, executive director welcomed everyone. Mr. Skip Waters, Meterologist, WCTI Channel 12 TV was the master of ceremonies. Mrs. Jean Fulcher, Green Chapel Baptist Chruch provided the tribute to Senior Citizens. Mr. William Yeates entertained with 20th century music. Mr. Dick Jones, WITN Channel 7 TV presented the awards. Mrs. Virginia Foye, WCTI Channel 12 conducted the Ms. Vogue Segement. Mrs. Gladys White: Ms. Tri-County 1984-85 made her farewell speech. The music was provided by Mrs. Peggy Scharding, music director for the New Bern Civic Theater, Iric . Temple Taylor Ricky Attwood. The Board of Directors are Roger Wilson, Gardner Robinson, Buddy Whitford, and John Evering- ton. The outgoing -President Buddy Whitford announced the 1985 Fireman of the Year. Mr. Gilbert A. Whitford III was named 1985 Fireman of the Year. Mr. Whitford received a plaque designating him Fireman of the Year. He has been with the department for the past 13 years. He stated that he had seen the department grow during those and that he had enjoyed serving Wl^ lbe ihen, women, and young adults of the community. jt.
