Tuck defi nitely has an effective “attack,” be cause she now' has another Ensign calling constantly. Stuart’s date was precious, and Sallie’s was the Van Johnson type—she’d like to give him to Divers if he were hers to give. . . . Mag and Maria had a gay time feeding the “hawks and crows” at the Capitol w'ith tw'O Marine Lieu tenants w'ho are slated for return appearances soon. . . . Betsy and Virginia report an exciting time with the Navy in Elizabeth City week-end before last. Guess what? Expression Recital Annette ’Thackwell Fulton, stu dent of Miss Florence C. Davis, pre sented the first expression certificate recital of the year in Saint Mary’s Auditorium on Friday evening, April 13. In memory of the late President Roosevelt, Annette offered selections from Lincoln: Man of the People by Edward Markham. The first group consisted of a monologue. The Young Reciter, by Beatrice Hertford and Fleurette and Company, a decalogue in one act by Essex Dane. The second section consisted of ten nature poems which were divided into seasonal groups. Among the most notable and enjoyable Avere The West Wind by John Masefield, Stars by Sara Teasdale, God’s World by Edna St. Vincent Millay, and Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening by Robert Frost. She concluded her program with Act IV, Scene I of Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice in which she ably portrayed all of the char acters. Annette was assisted by Marcia McMillin who sang “O Bucca Dolo rosa” by Sibella and the “Doll Song” from Tales of Hoffman by Offenbach, during the intermission. All of Annette’s selections were given with marked clarity of diction and enunciation as well as range and flexibility of tone. Voice Students Present Studio Recital Voice students of Miss Geraldine Cate gave a studio recital Thursday afternoon, April 12. Bobbie Blum started the program by rendering Carey’s Pastoral; Mar jorie Pless sang a Swedish Folk song and Haydn’s Mermaid’s Song; Ruth Gay, Tosti’s Ave Maria; Roberta Bryant, Schubert’s Hedge Roses; Katherine Ives, Schumann’s The Lotus Flower; Hettie Murphy, Fontenailles’ Ohstination; Barbara AIcLaughlin, two French songs by Delibes and Weekerlin; Nancy Han nah, Delibes’ Les FiJles de Cadix; Mary Mull, Henschel’s Morning Hymn; Catherine McClamroch, MacGimsey’s To My Mother and Rogers’ The Time for Mahing Songs; Katherine Royall, Josten’s Wildflowers; Frances Avera, tAvo compositions Avith French lyrics by Guion; Marcia McMillin, Sibella’s 0 Bocca Dolorosa and Offenbach’s Doll Song from “Tales of Hoff man” ; and Peggy Trotter, Gounod’s Chantez, Riez, Dormez and Novel- lo’s The Dainty Little Damozel.
