Mr. Calloway presented reviews and criticisms of some of the most outstanding plays now on Broad way. Mr. Callowa3^ recommended “Mr. Roberts,” a story of sailors on board a mail-carrier ship, from which he cited several humorous incidents: “A Street Car Named Desire,” a moralistic plaj'-; “In side U.S.A.,” a musical comedy which he considered one of the best plays of its type, and “Com mand Decisions,” which is a ver>' serious plaj^ concerning the war. Mr. Callowaj^ also gave sketches from several other plays. Ellen Rixey Interviews Joe Callo^y Beacon Organizes With hirst Members Members Choose Allen, Cozart, McGuirk to Lead Society First members of the Beacon, Saint Alary’s new underclassman honor society, were announced in as sembly December 7. The girls were chosen for general all-round excel lence. They are Mary Frances Allen, Pat Cohoon, Rachel Cozart, Eliza beth Dorris, Barbara Ann^ Fulton, Alice Hicks, Martha McGuirk, Anii' Nicoll, Evelyn Oettinger, Marjorie Penton, Cynthia Pei’kins, Charlotte Wallin, Lou, Ann Watkins, and Betty xVnne Williamson. The or ganizational meeting was held Tues day night with Ann Moore in charge. They chose Miss Bason as their fac ulty adviser and elected officers. The president is Alary Frances Allen, Statesville, a first year girl. She is'on the BELLES and Stage Coach staffs, in the Dramatic Club, in Orchesis, and is a Sigma. Martha McGuirk, a second year student from Morgantoii was chosen secretary. She is a member of the y. W. C. A., the Granddaughters’ Club, is a dance marshal, a Mu, and is on the circulation staff of the BELLES. Rachel Cozart, a first year student from Fuquay Springs, is treasurei. Other than being president of the freshman class, she is a hall repre sentative, a member of the Y. W. C. A., in the Granddaughters’ Club, a Sigma, and on the first team in hockey. At the second meeting the mem bers decided to help a needy family Language Fraternity Takes In New Members Sigma Pi Alpha, national mod ern language society, met with the State College group on Friday. December 3, at 7:00 in the study halt to initiate new members. Members taken in had a B— aver age .for the quarter and a B aver age in their language. Peace Oh Earth, Sunday afternoon, December 19, at 5 :30 in the Chapel. The pageant, which will tell the familiar Christmas story, is directed by Miss Florence C. Davis and Russell Broughton. The pageant in pantomime will have the following cast: Narrator, Susan Jenkins; pages, Betsy Shepard and Martha Wallace; special angels, Betty Anne Yowell and Betsy Car ter ; shepherds, Edith Allison; Caro Davis, Frances Drane, Nancy Lee Duckett, Ladre King, Elizabeth Kor- negay. Holiday Program Last Night' Last night, in accordance with the Christmas season. Saint Alary’s ex pression dei)artment under the direc tion of Aliss Florence C. Davis pre sented a jirogram of monologues and a radio nativity drama at 8 :00 o’clock in' the school auditorium.
