Saint Alary’s student body and
facnlt.v are being canvassed to
support the Foster Parents’ Plan
for War Orphans, Inc., this week.
This plan, which is being spon
sored b.v the A'.AV.C.A. for the stu
dent body, makes possible the
adoption of war orphans by peo
ple in the United States.
The adoption is mainly financial
(.$180 for one year), but the “fos
ter parent’’ has direct contact
with the child through letters and
pictures. A histor.v of the child
is sent to the “foster parent”
along with instriietions about
mailing letters.
r.TRE FOR CHILDREN
The nione.v which is ]iiit into
this plan gives the child food,
shelter, clothing, medical care,
schooling, and instruction in the
religion of his parents. In nian.i
eases children have lost arms or
le"s in the war; the money needed
to"]iav for artificial limbs is su]i-
plied'by the war orphan’s plan.
Plastic siirgerv and artificial eyes
are also paid for b.v this fund.
The Foster Parent’s Plan is a
non-profit relief organization and
has given help to more than
60 000 children in its twelve years
of service. The plan is now help-
in 7.000 children of fourteen dit-
ferent nationalities; headquai-ters
are in nine countries. Everv (’lijlfi
accepted into the plan is carefully
investigated and is mired for ac
cording to his individual need.
Among the noteworth.v people
who are sponsors of this plan are:
Herbert Hoover, Kay K.vser,
Fredric Alarch, Alarv Piekford,
AVill Rogers, Jr., and man.v others.
A number of schools and nniver-
sities in both the Xorth and South
