The Belles of Saint Mary’s November 2, 19^1 SMS Classes Elect New Officers, Representatives To Legislative Body Four Classes Elect New Dance Marshals Classes Hold Meetings During First Three Weeks In October Senior, junior, sophomore, fresh man, and business classes elected their class officers and legislative representatives at class meetings held for that purpose during the first three weeks of October. The senior class elected Ann Ben ton, vice-president; Ann Fitzgerald, secretary; and “Beeps” Buchanan, treasurer. Betsy Clark is the legis- . lative representative. Ann Benton, of Wilmington, has been at Saint Mary’s for two years. She is a member of the YWCA, vice-president of the choir, and is a Sigma. Ann Fitzgerald, of Princeton, has been at Saint Mary’s four years. She is a member of the Glee Club, the YWCA, the Stage Coach staff, and the BELLES staff. She is president of the Altar Guild, a coun selor, and a Mu. “Beeps,” of Hendersonville, has also been at Saint Mary’s four years. She is a member of the Letter Club and the YWCA. She is on the BELLES staff and is a Mu. The junior class elected Susie Nicoll, vice-president; Laura Deane Matheson, secretary; and Virginia Timberlake, treasurer. Emilie Ad ams and Paula Whitaker are the legislative rei^resentatives. Susie, of Charlotte, is a new girl at Saint Mary’s. She is a member of the BELLES staff, a member of the business staff of the Stage Coach, a hall representative, a mem ber of the Canterbury Club, and is a Sigma. Laura Deane, of Ahoskie, has been at Saint Mary’s three years. She is vice-president of the Doctors’ Daughters Club, secretary-treasurer of the YWCA, a member of the BELLES staff, and a Sigma. Virginia or “Genna,” of Eoxboro, is at Saint Mary’s for her first year. ' She is a member of the Can terbury Club and is a Sigma. The .sophomore class elected Lau Girls, Dates Enjoy Girl-Break Dance ra Ervin, vice-president; Jean Saint Mary’s held its first monthly girl-break dance from 8 ;00 to 11:30 in the gym October 13. The admis sion fee was twenty-five cents per person. The dance marshals, acting as hostesses, providing music, and selling doughnuts and soft drinks for refreshments, worked hard to as sure everyone of a good time. A very large crowd was present. The chaperones were Miss S. E. Jones, Miss M. D. Jones, and Mr. William Guess. Deedee Davenport entertained during two intermissions with her well-known singing and playing versions of How High the Moon, Cry, Baby, Cry, Emhraceable You, and others. These were high lights of the evening’s entertainment. Because of the participation of all those present, this dance was one of the most successful girl-break dances ever held at Saint Mary’s. SMS Students Enjoy Three Act Operetta Ealeigh Civic Music Association presented Strauss’ Fledermaus at the Memorial Auditorium Tuesday, October 23. The audience warmly received the three-act operetta, sung in English. The first act took place in Gabriel and Eosalinda’s home; the second act at Prince Orlofsky’s party; and the third act at the prison. The high lights of the operetta weie the staging, costumes and light ing effects. Outstanding members of the cast were Eosalinda, portrayed by Irra Petina; Michael Bartlett as Gabriel, Eosalinda’s husband; Adele, Eosa linda’s chambermaid; Harding Dorn, solo dancer, and his assistants; and John Pelletti, as Frosch, a jail er, the only non-singing role in the operetta. Groves, secretary; and Timmy Tim mons, treasurer. Glenn Lightsey Avill represent the class in the legis lature. Laura, of Morganton, has been at Saint Mary’s for two years. She is a member of the YWCA and is a Mu. Jean, of Gastonia, has been at Saint Mary’s for two years also. She is a member of the Beacon, a member of the YWCA, and is a Sigma. Timmy, of Columbia, South Car olina, has been at Saint Mary’s for two years. She is on the BELLES staff, a' member of the YWCA, on the Stage Coach staff, and is a Sigma. The freshman class elected Sally Hodges, vice-president; Sally Pat terson, secretary; and Betsy Ann Webb, treasurer. The legislative representative has not yet been chosen. Sally Hodges, of Asheville, is at Saint Mary’s for her first year. She is a member of the Dramatic Club. Stage Coach staff, and is a Mu. Betsy Ann, of Asheville, is at Saint Mary’s for her first year. She is a member of the Dramatic Club, the BELLES staff, and is a Mu. Sally Patterson, of Chaidotte, is a member of the Stage Coach staff, Dramatic Club, Canterbury Club, and is a Mu. The business class officers are Peggy Leary, vice-president; Chris McKim, secretary; aiid Ginger Mowery, treasurer. Betsy Dunn is the legislative representative. Peggy, of Morehead, has been at Saint Mary’s for two years. She is a Mu. Chris, of Wilson, has been at Saint Mary’s for two year? also. She is a member of the BELLES staff, a member of the YWCA, and is a Mu. Ginger, of Ealeigh, is a special student at Saint Mary’s. She grad uated from the junior college_ last year and has returned as a business student. Betsy, of Alexandria, Virginia, is a second year girl. She is a chapel server, a member of the Can terbury Club, and is a Mu, Junior, sophomore, freshman, and business classes have elected their dance marshals for the year 1951-52. The senior class elected Sally Hack ney to fill a vacancy. Sally, of Wilson, has been at Saint Mary’s for two years. She is a counselor, a member of the Stage Coach staff, and a Mu. The junior class marshals are Pat Flowers, Haney Boston, Flicka Keane, Deedee Davenport, and Gene Overbeck. Pat, of Atlanta, is a new girl at Saint Mary’s. She is a member of the Glee Club, choir, and is a Sigma. Haney, of Eichmond, is at Saint Mary’s for her first year also. She is a member of the choir and is a Sigma. Flicka, of Charlottesville, Vir ginia, is at Saint Mary’s for her first year. She is a member of the Glee Club, choir, and Octet. She is also a Sigma cheerleader. Deedee, of Timmonsville, South Carolina, has been at Saint Mary’s three years. She is a member of the Letter Club, Glee Club, Doctors’ Daughters Club, and is president of the Mu athletic society. Gene, of Fayetteville, is at Saint Mary’s for her first year. She is a member of the Glee Club, Orchesis, and is a hall representative. She is also a Mu. The dance marshals for the sopho more and freshman classes are Kay Baker, Barbara Dickson, and Eve Hargrave. Kay, of Timmonsville, South Car olina, has been at Saint Mary’s for two years. She is a member of the YWCA and is a Sigma. Barbara, of Charlotte, has been at Saint Mary’s for two years. She is a Mu. Eve, of Lexington, is at Saint Mary’s for her first year. She is a Sigma cheerleader. The business class dance marshals are Della Edwards and Peggy Lou J ohnston. Della, of Kinston, is at Saint Ma- ly’s for her first year. College Rhythm, a chorus, was presented by Joyce Sparger, Liz Lynn, Anne Croom, Peggy Mitch- ner, Martha Cope, and Jackie Steed. Ann Bynum and Betsy Williams ac companied the chorus on the ukelele. Betty Martin and Harriette Ann Barham, dressed in clothes of the flapper era, did a fast Charleston. The program closed with a skit acted to the music of Frankie and Johnnie.
