Junior Class Elects
Officers For Year
Timmie Timmons, president of
the junior class, presided at the
junior class meeting, which was
held October 23. The class elected
Laura Ervin, Connie Shaner, and
Isabel Masterton to the offices of
vice-president, secretary, and treas
urer, respectively.
Timmie Timmons, of Columbia,
South Carolina, is president of the
YWCA, vice-president of the
Sigmas, a member of the Letter
Club, BELLES circulation staff,
Circle, and Stage Coach business
staff.
Laura Ervin, of Morganton, was
editor of the 1952-1953 Student
Handbook. Last year she rvas vice-
president of the sophomore class and
a member of the Beacon. She is on
the staffs of the Bulletin, BELLES,
and is a' Mu.
Connie Shaner, of Lynchburg,
Virginia, is a member of the Can
terbury Club and is a Sigma.
Isabel Masterton, of Hillsboro, is
a member of the Glee Club, Dra
matics Club, and Canterbury Club.
She was a hall representative last
year and is a Mu.
Junior Class Plans
Halloween Affair
Saint Mary’s annual Halloween
party, sjionsored by the junior and
business classes, will be held in the
gym tonight at eight o’clock. The
class presidents, Timmy Timmons
and Anne Croom ajipointed the com
mittees and their chairmen. Chair
men of the committees are as fol
lows: Kay Baker, decorations; Ann
Derby, booth ; Jeanette Uzzell, poster
and publicity; Harriett Conger, en
tertainment; Trissy Holt, clean-up;
and Frances Perry, refreshments.

Enthrall Music Lovers
Miss Geraldine Cates’ voice stu
dents presented the assembly pro
gram Thursday, October 30. The
songs were from Mozart’s opera,
'Fhe Marriage of Figaro. Eftehea
Chonis sang Voi che sapete. Bar
bara White sang Dove Sono. Bar
bara White and Harriet Harris then
sang Sull’aria, as a duet. Harriet
Harris sang Giunse Alfin, a reci
tative, and Ich vieni, an aria. Myra
Thayer narrated the program.
Seniors Receive SMS’
Highest School Honor
Order of the Circle, Saint Mary’s
secret honor society, tapped three
new members Wednesday night, Oc
tober 29. The new ' members are
Donna Bull, Syb Hamer, and
Jackie Steed. The old members are
Paula M’hitaker, Deedee Daveniiort,
Nell Eley, Susie Nicoll, Laura
Deane Matheson, Timmie Timmons,
and Margo Hester. Membership in
the Circle is the highest honor a
Saint Mary’s girl may attain.

of the Sigm-a’s, Legislative Body
member, counselor, member of Let
ter Club, Altar Guild, YWCA.
Syb, of Lenoir, is senior Honor
Council representative, marshal,
vice-counselor, art editor of the
Stage Coach, member of the Doc
tors’ Daughters’ Club, and is a Mu.
Jackie, of Raleigh, is president of
the day students, a member of the
Glee Club, and Legislative Body,
and is a Mu.
As the old members arranged
themselves around the Circle stone,
the candlelight ceremony began. The
old members brought the new mem
bers to the center of the circle where
they lighted their candles from the
torch. After all members had taken
their places in the circle, the presi
dent waved the torch over the group
signifying unity. The ceremony
ended with a jirocession around the
front campus.
Civic Music Concerts
Open With Famed Singer
Civic Music Association an
nounces that Victoria de los Angeles
will open the season on November
3, 1952, at Raleigh Memorial Audi
torium. A soprano of the Metro
politan Opera, she is now on her
second coast to coast tour of the
United States.
Senorita de los .\ngelcs won first
place in the international contest in
Geneva, Switzerland, in 1947. Her
United States debut came two years
later in Carnegie Hall, New York
City. She was so well received that
ten days after the close of her first
appearance at Carnegie Hall she
was asked to return. She has had
three sell-out concerts at Carnegie
Hall.
On November 3, 1952, she will
probably render some of her parts
from the Metropolitan Opera. These
may possibly inclnde Mimi from
La, Boheme, Madame Butterfly, and
Elsa from Lohengrin.
