The Belles of St. Mary’s March 26, 1954 Student Government Conducts Miss Emily Kimbrough Speaks 1954-’55 School Elections Bestf Wallace In Leading Positions 111 elections held during the third week in March, the St. Mary’s stu dent body chose' its chairman of Hall Council and vice-president of the Student Government Associa tion for 1954-’.55. Elected as chairman of Hall Council was Jane Best. This ca pable junior graduated from Fre mont High School before entering St. Mary’s this year. During her first year at St. Mary’s, Jane has been chosen captain of the Sigma basketball team and is a member of the all star basketball team. She is also a member of the Granddaugh ters’ Club, the Glee Club, YWCA, YDC, and Sigma Fi Alpha. Anne Wallace, an attractive junior who came to St. Mary’s from Oxford, was elected vice-president of the Student Government Associa tion. Anne, who is vice-president of the junior class, is also a member of the Dramatic Club and has taken leading roles in productions throughout the year. She is a mem ber of the YWCA, YDC, BELLES staff. Juniors Announce Students Elect Qood, Welsh Future Officers ’54-’55 Publications During the past week the junior class elected three girls to serve as its officers for 195L’55. Although not elected by the whole student body, these officers will play an im portant part in student government next year. Sara IValters will officiate as president of the senior class next year. Sara, a capable Greensboro girl, is quite active in sports and is captain of the Sigma volleyball team. Toni Briggs and Margot Ham mond will serve as Honor Council Xew editors for the 1954-’55 BELLES and Bulletin are Martha Good, of Eichmond, Virginia, and Lane IVelsh, of Monroe, respective ly. Both girls profess a particular interest in journalism. Martha is a veteran newspaper worker, for she was an editor of her high school paper. She excitedly claims that her election is the high light of her junior year at St. Mary’s. Among her ambitions for BELLES staff, Martha is a Sigma and a member of the Sigma Fi Alpha. Lane Welsh’s activities include membership on the BELLES staff, in the Dramatics Club, in the representatives from the incoming next year’s BELLES are plans to senior class. Toni, whose home is achieve a closer relationship between YIVCA, on the Bulletin staff, and in the Sigma Fi Alpha. She is a strong supporter of the ALu’s. Lane also represents the junior class in Honor Council. “Being editor of the Bidlethi pleases me very much,” she beamed. Feggy Sullivan, a special student, is a junior at Keedham-Broughton High Mai-tha Anne Horne and Ralph Bryant, piano students of Donald Beery, won first places in this dis trict in an all-state high school con test. They are now entitled to com pete in the finals which will be lield in Greensboro in April.
