Everett Wohlbruck is the win ner of first place. He is the fiance of Xancy Adams. Everett, a service man, is now stationed in Germany. Xeil Birch from Raleigh was jiicked for second jdacc. His pic ture was submitted by Kathryn Webb. Xeil is a sophomore at X. C. State and a Sigma Chi pledge. The third place winner is Smith Bradfield, who was entered by Stu art Pegram. Pat Sullivan, presi dent, introduced Mrs. IMary Mc Gee past National Committec- woinan. IMrs. IMcGee introduced John Jordan, the speaker. yir. Jordan is a past firesident ot the Young Democrats. He said that Harriman, Kefauver, and Stevenson would visit North Caro lina. After Air. Jordan’s interesting speech, the A’DC members enjoyed a picnic supper. Rally for Kefauver A Democratic rally was held at the Sir Walter Hotel on January 27. Senator Estes Kefauver was guest of honor. The program con sisted of a nows conference, inter views, and a banquet. At a meeting of the St. Alary’s YDC on Wednesday, there was a call for volunteers to help with the meeting. The St. Alary’s girls who helped were Sherry Lackey, Sara Alercer, Anna Thompson, Alari- anna Miller, and Pat Sullivan. These girls heljicd to register the delegates and sold Democrat Di gests. February 10, 1956 Former President Passes Suddenly [Ed. Note: The editors wish to apologize for not putting this ar ticle in the Belles at the appropri ate time.] The president of St. Mary’s Junior College from 1932 to 1945, Airs. Alargaret Jones Cruikshank, died suddenly after a heart attack in Fayetteville on December 26, 1955. Funeral services were conducted by the Right Rev. Edwin A. Penick at St. Alary’s Chapel. She was buried in Oakwood. Mrs. Cruikshank was born Oc tober 13, 1878, in Hillsboro. She was a member of the 1893 gradu ating class of St. Mary’s School and was valedictorian of her class. She studied at UNC for one year and then attended Columbia University where she received a B.S. Degree in Alathematics. In 1937 she was awarded an ALA. Degree in His tory from Duke University. She taught mathematics at St Mary’s from 1897 until 1910 except mr the years she was studying at Columbia University and UNC. Airs. Cruikshank became president of St. Alary’s after the death of her husband and remained in that po sition until 1945 when she retired. Rhythm Kids Band Rocks Student Body The Rhythm Kids from the Negro division of the North Caro lina State School for the Blind brought the house down” in assembly on February 7. This band plays popular rhythm the exception ot the piano, all the instruments vere either toys with kazoos on them or handmade in their work shop. John Hazell, a graduate of the school and head of the indus trial arts shop, introduced the num bers and the singers.
