Linda Luns ford was elected by the student body on April 3, to fill this ca pacity. Linda is a Mu, a member of the YDC, Orchesis, The Belles staff, and the .Junior Unification commit tee. As quoted directly from the school Constitution her specific du ties as Secretary of Hall Council are : (1) “To keep full minutes of each Council meeting. (2) To give students written noti fication of Hall Council pen alties except when notification has been officially given in the Hall Council meeting. (3) At the end of the academic year to prepare in duplicate an annual report of the work of the Hall Council, one copy to be submitted to the Presi dent of the College, the other to be filed with Student Gov ernment records. IMr. Hughes recently ajipointed his assistants for next year. They will begin their duties soon. Millie Fary and Ann Shepherd are the crucifers. Millie is from Manila. She is a Mu cheerleader, member of the choir, Orchesis, Stagecoach and The Belles staffs, and treasurer of the YRC. Ann hails from Charleston, W. Va., and is a member of the Dramatics Club and the Stagecoach staff. Ann is a Mu and Senior Honor Council Representative for next year. The servers are Betty Covington, Ann Hardin, and Helen London. “Cov” is from Raleigh, and she is a Sigma, a member of the YDC, and the Granddaughters’ Club. Ann, from Hendersonville, is a member of the YRC and The Belles staff. She is a Sigma. Helen is from Pittsboro, and she is a mem ber of the choir, YDC, and Grand daughters’ Club. She is also secre tary of the Junior Class and a Mu. Sally Barnes, Alary Love Elliot, and Sybil Mathis are the new acolytes. Sally, from Wilson, is a member of the Altar Guild, YDG, YRC, Dramatics Club, Sigma Pi Alpha, and Stagecoach and The Belles staffs. Alary Love Elliot is from Goldsboro. She is a member of the Dramatics Club, A"DC, and AAVCA. Sybil Alathis comes from St. Augustine, Fla. She participates in Orchesis, Glee Club, YRC, Dramatics Club, and choir. The president of the Altar Guild for next year is Jane Brady from Charlotte. Jane is a member of the Altar Guild, A"RC, nomination committee, The Belles staff, and a Sigma. Jane’s duties include form ing committees for the Altar Guild and su])ervising the work. Peggy Withers, from Columbia, S. C., is the new Choir Alother. Peggy is a member of The Belles staff and the Dramatics Club. The Chaplain’s assistants are Sally I^ewis and Carol Barber. Sally is from Asheville and is in the Glee Club and YDC. Carol, from Greensboro, is in the Conversational French Club, a member of The Belles staff, and a Mu. The job of these girls is to lead the prayers in the dining room when Air. Hughes is not there. Mu Team Takes Volleyball Bout The Mu team came out on to]) in the volleyball tournament. The tournament consisted of only two games. The first game was held on Alarch 21 with a final score of 38 to 27. Caroline Cobb, a Mu, was high scorer in this game with 17 points. Betsy Brinkley was the Sigma high scorer with 6 points. J/us partici pating in this game were imey Alil- ward, Beth Winstead, Betty How ard, Katy Cojip, Courtney Dick, Alary Catherine Jones, Toddy Alann, Emmie Spencer, Caroline Cobb, and Frances Pearson. The Sigma players included DeeDee DeVere, Carol Biggers, Kit Tiede- man, Jennie Tyson, Jane Walker, Barry Bowen, Betsy Brinkley, and Betty Covington. The second game was played on April 4, with the Mus winning again. The final score was 31-27. Caroline Cobb was again high scorer. She made 8 points, but Frances Pearson followed close be hind with 6 points. For the Sigmas, Carol Biggers led with 9 points. Susan Dodd was added to the Sigma side for this game. The Mu team claims Nancy Page as a member. As chief dance marshal Nancy Page will be in charge of all dances at SAIJC. She will head the dance marshals elected from each class. It will also be her duty to hire bands for all dances. The ehief dance marshal is soeial chairman Alumnae Council Entertains Seniors The Alumnae Council entertained the Senior Class at a luncheon on Saturday, April 6, at the Reinlyn House. Members of the Council attending were Airs. Aladison, Airs. Powell, Airs. Davis, and Airs. Dockery. Aliss Betty Debnara, Aliss Edith Richardson, Aliss Alabel Alorrison, Aliss Elizabeth Tucker, and Dr. Richard Stone also at tended. The purpose of the luncheon was to enlighten the seniors as to the functions of the Alumnae Asso ciation. They will become Alumnae u])on their graduation in June. Airs. Aladison jiresided in the absence of the president. Airs. Powell gave a short but interesting talk on the accomplishments of the Alumnae Association. Betsy Brinkley responded for the Senior Class, who thoroughly enjoyed and a])preciated the luncheon. at SAIJC for State College. At Christmas she works with the Sen ior Class president in arranging for the Senior Christmas Partv. Belles Staff Select Their Successors The 1956-57 Belles staff recently selected their successors. These girls will work under the leadership of Alichael Gardner, the new editor. Dorothy Overbeck from Fayette ville IS the new assistant editor. At St. Alary’s she is a member of the A RC, YDC, a Sigma, hall representative, and an active member of the feature staff for The Belles. Alartha Custis of Suffolk, Va., will be the news editor next year. Alartha is also on The Belles staff. She is a Sigma, a member of the YDC, and an assistant in the chemistry laboratory. Next year the feature department will be headed by Sallie Rembert from Columbia, S. C. Sallie is vice-president of the Junior Class. She is a member of the Grand daughters’ Club, The Belles staff, the YDC, YWCA, and Sigma Pi Alpha. Sallie is a Mu. Chee Davis is the new eopy reader. Chee, from Nashville, is a member of the Glee Club and Orchesis Council and is a Mu. The typists will be under the leadership of Peggy Withers who is also from Columbia, S. C. Peggy works on The Belles staff this year as a typist. She is a Sigma and a member of the Dramaties Club. Peggy will participate in the coming Alay Day program. Peppy Curry from Charlotte will be in charge of circulation. She is a Sigma cheerleader, and a member of the YDC and the Altar Guild. A Day Student, Betsy Lipford, will head The Belles headlines staff. She is a member of the Beacon, The Belles and Stagecoach staffs, A^DC, YRC, A’^WCA, and the Canterbury Club. Betsy is a Sigma. Jo Kit Brothers from Suffolk, A a., is the new cigarette manager. Jo Kit is a Sigma, a member of the Granddaughters’ Club, and the cigarette representative on 1st Holt. Lou Johnson from Burgaw will head the exchange staff. She is a Mu cheerleader, a member of the Choir, Altar Guild, The Belles staff. Dramatics Club, YDC, and a hall reju'esentative. Sara Barber, who hails from Wilkesboro, will be the photog rapher for The Belles next year. Sara is a Sigma, a member of the A RC, AAVCA, a hall representative, and on the unification committee for the Junior Class. Barbara Hauser from Fayette ville will be the cartoonist. She IS a Mu, member of the Glee Club, ARC’ Canterbury Club, Dramatics Club, Junior Unification Commit- tee, and a cigarette representative.
