Muse Gets Underway
The Muse, St. Alary’s literary
magazine, has Alary Anne Carter
for its editor this year.
The staff, which numbers about
twenty-five, is chosen on the basis
of recommendation from English
teachers and their own personal
interest in creative writing.
Under the direction of Aliss
Sarah Jones, the group meets once
a week to read and criticize the
work of the other members. Alany
types of writing are studied, in
cluding short stories, poems, sat
ires, and essays.
Each year a magazine of cre
ative writing is published by the
members. Editor Alary Anne says,
“We expect to jiublish the Muse
in the early siiring.”
Mock UN Assembly
To Be Held
Recent excitement in the United
Nations makes the coming mock
U. N. assembly to be held at Duke
University of particular interest
to St. Alary’s students and to other
college students of this area. On
February 23, 24, and 25, delega
tions of five members each from
surrounding colleges and universi
ties will assemble at Duke to take
jiart in reconstructing a typical
United Nations meeting.
Each delegate will represent a
U. N. memlier nation. Exactly
which nation the St. Alary’s girls
will represent is unknown at pres
ent, but the hope is that it will be
one of the smaller ones which
would wield great influence, such
as Ghana, Cuba, or a AHddle East
country.
There is hope among the dele
gates that Dag Hammerskjqld,
Secretary General of the United
Nations will pay a visit to the as
sembly at Duke.
Issues and U. N. policies will be
debated in committees and on the
floor of the mock general assem
bly. College students will have the
opportunity to voice their opinions
on such great unsettled jiroblems
as the Cold War and disarmament.
Delegates from St. Alary’s
are all students of Aliss Alor-
rison mid Airs. Alartha Stoops.
Extensive study and preparation
are ahead for the delegates in ord
er that they may prepare them
selves for handling the intensive
work of the U. N.
