I will probably be a day student at Charleston College, or if I have a change of heart in the next year, I will go to the Uni- versitv of South Carolina.” Jane will succeed Linda Ramsey as Secretary of Hall Council. Linda has filled the position this year in an efficient, commendable fashion. Betsy Nichols, next year’s vice- president of the Student Body, has always been an outstanding stu dent. She won the scholarship award for having the highest scho lastic average at Durham High School in the tenth grade. Again she won the Cooper Aledal, as a freshman, at St. Alary’s, for the highest average in her class. This year Betsy has been chairman of the Junior Class project committee and of the St. Alary’s delegation to the mock United Nations. She is a member of Orchesis, the Letter Club, AkW.C.A., A'oung Democrats the Muse and the Dramatic Club. Pertaining to her election, Betsy said: I’m very flattered to have been elected vice-president and I hope that I will be able to live up to the standards of the job itself and those which my predecessor, Amelia A^ancey has set.” Next year Betsy wants “to find some way to build uj) school spirit which I feel is quite necessary in order to have a successful student organization.” This summer Betsy is going to teach dancing at Camp A"onolois- see. After graduating from St. Alary’s she plans to go the Uni versity of North Carolina and then to teach high school English. ELEPHANT SALE: SUCCESS A capacity crowd attended the White Elephant Sale held by the Junior Class in the gym on Alarch 7. At 9:15 St. Alary’s typical wom en shoppers began to push and shove to be first in line when the door w'as opened. In short order the display tables had been ran sacked by the enthusiastic bargain seekers. Alain attractions of the evening were grab bags, door prizes, and “happy hours.” During happy hours prices on the remaining arti cles were slashed. At 9:30 o’clock, Robert Lee Green Connelly—auc tioneer, Jr. Class Advisor, and main attraction—with’ the aid of a sturdy weejun (for a gavel) began to auction off specific articles. Among the purchases were an un usual pillow case (bought by 3rd Smedes), long Johns (bought by Lane Norman), and a 4 inch pen nant which sold for 65 cents. The Juniors wish to thank all those who brought (and spent) a nickol in their hot little hands. Congratulations to Betsy Nickols and Air. Connelly for a job well done. Special thanks to Dr. and Airs. Gueriy for their support, and an Oscar for Airs. Stamey for her contribution! FRIENDS OF COLLEGE The Friends of the College Series will present Elia Kazan’s produc tion of “J.B.” on April 10. The play will be given at William Neal Reynolds Coliseum at 4:00 and 8:00 p.m.
