St. Mary’s Upholds Honor Week Honor Defined Honor Week puts specific emphasis on honor and the importance it plays here at St. Mary’s. Its purpose is to help the student to have a better concept of honor in order that she may evaluate her own honor and set higher standards for herself. Held annually. Honor Week, which this year Avas Nov. 18-22,’ was tilled with a number of events emphasizing honor. Doth assembly piogiams and Chapel ivere con cerned with this important week. At the 1 uesday Assembly, Ilose.s Watson, president of the Student Government, and a representative from each class spoke on what honor means to them. Through the ideas of these girls—Mary Quern, senior, Harriet Gilliam, junior, Karen Oetjen, sophomore, and Margaret Stephens, freshman—it IS hoped that others can better understand what honor means to them. Also at this first Assembly of the Aveek, the Honor Council mem bers Avere introduced, as Avas its advisor, Mrs. Stoops. At the Ihursday assemblA’, Airs. James AleKee from Raleigh spoke to the school on her interpretation of honor and its importance. Posture Queen Chosen Su-Su Dixon Avas selected as the 1963-64 St. Alaiw’s Posture Queen in the traditional Posture Contest. At the same time Linda Connelly Avas eroAvned “Slump Queen” by last .vear’s first runner-up, Alarilyn Stadler. The contest, Avhich took place in assembW on NoAmmber 14, Avas sponsored by the Letter Club. Workshops On October 31, the dance group Avent to Duke University to a mas ter dance class Avhich Avas under the direction of choreographer and dancer Albin Alley. At Duke thcA' Avent through several exer cises and Avere then taught a modern jazz dance. The Orchesis and other interested students also Avent to Chapel Hill Sunday, No vember 17, to see films on Alareel Alarceau, a pantominist; Alartha Graham, a famous dancer; and Jose Limon, also a famous dancer.
