Again this year,
Secretaries Elected
During the past two weeks Mike
Hill and Mary Ravenel were elect
ed to fill the positions of Secre
tary-Treasurer of the Student
Government and Secretary of Hall
Council, respectively. Mike will
have as her specific duties to re
cord the proceeding of all meet
ings of the Student Government
Association, to act as secretary to
the President of the Association,
to act as Treasurer of the Asso
ciation by keeping accurate finan
cial records of fhe A.ssociation, to
act as secretary of the Honor
Board, to post on the Association
Bulletin Board any necessary
SGA business, and to present a re
port at the end of the year sum
marizing the work of the Honor
Board.
Mike is a new girl, from Arling
ton, Virginia.
Newlv elected Secretary of Hall
Council', Mary Ravenel, is from
Winiisboro, S. C. She will have as
her specific duties to serve as a
member of the Hall Council, the
Disciplinary Committee, and the
Minor Offense Committee and to
keep detailed minutes of each
meeting, to give students written
notification of Hall Council penal
ties, to make a written report of
Hall Council Committee penalties
after each Committee meeting, to
prepai’e at the end of the ^ ear a
report of the work of the Hall
Council, and to perform general
secretarial duties.
Holcombe And
Gilliam Elected
Recently elected officers of the
Student Governmeirt Association
are Pammy Holcombe, Chairman
of the Hall Council, and Harriet
Gilliam, Vice-President of the a.s
sociation.
Pammy has among her duties
that of presiding over the meet
ings of the Hall Council of serving
on the Legislative Body, of mair-
ing sealing chai-ts for chapel and
assembly, and supervising the at
tendance, and of appointing mem
bers of the incoming senior class
as counselors for the coming year.
An active particijiant iu school
activities, Pammy has served on
the Altar Guild and the Stage
coach staff' this year. At Spartan
burg High School she was editor
of the school annual, a member
of the newspaper staff, and was
selecfed as an outstanding senior.
Harriet has among her duties
that of performing the duties of
the President in her absence, of
acting as Chainnan of the Legis
lative Body, of serving on the
Honor Board, of serving on the
Hall Council, and of serving as
chairman of the Orientation Com
mittee.
This year Harriet has served on
the Altar Guild and was a mem
ber of the nominating committee
for ’64-65 SGA officers. At Vir
ginia Beach High School, she was
a senior superlative, a student
government representative, a par
ticipant in Girl’s State, and a class
(/fficer for three vears.
Beacon Taps Four
On Monday, April 20, the Bea
con walked tapping in four new
members. Joining the old members
are Florence Hamerick, Karen
Oetjen, Kinsey Sabiston, and
Margaret Stevens.
Florence, a sophomore from
Gaffne.v, S. C. was a new girl this
year. She is a member of the
“Belles” staff and is also a music
student. Karen Oetjen, a sopho
more day student, is from Vir
ginia Beach, Va. Karen was vice-
])resident of her class last year,
and this year she is Sophomore
Class secretary.
Kinse.v Sabiston from Carth
age is freshman Class President
this year. Margaret Stevens, a
freshman from Shiloh, is treasurer
of her class and is in May Day.
The high school honor society
does volunteer work at the Wake
County Memorial Ho.spital, co
sponsors the Circle Beacon Christ
mas Party, and sells popcorn on
Sunday nights. Its main purpose
is to pi'omote school spirit.
