JUNIORS ELECT LEADERS On Friday, November 4, the ju nior class elected (by secret ballot) their officers for the 1966-67 school year. Nominations were held Thurs day in the auditorium. Arabella Nash, an “old girl,” from Tarboro, N. C. was elected president. Arabella has participated in many ac tivities at St. Mary’s and is presently a member of the Choir, Altar Guild, and the staffs of both the Belles and the Stagecoach. She is president of the Granddaughters’ Glub, served as freshman class treasurer, and was a member of The Beacon. The vice president, Lynn Fulghum, comes to St. Mary’s from Pensacola, Fla., where she was junior and senior class secretary, a member of the Girls Sextet, and on the Student Gouncil. Lynn was also a member of the Key- ettes and was Flomecoming Queen while in high school. Serving as secretary will be Martha Vaughan, an “old girl” from Eden- ton, N. G. On the May Gourt her sophomore year and also treasurer of her class, Martha is a member of the Belles staff and the Letter Gluh. Lu Dixon, from Farmville, N. G., will “guard the gold” of the junior class this year. While in high school Lu was elected Governor of Girls’ State and was co-editor of the an nual. She was also secretary of the Student Gouncil and choseii for the All-East team in basketball. Another “old girl,” Debra Grove from Wilmington, N. G., will serve as dance marshal this year. Debra was on the May Gourt last year and also served her sophomore class as dance marshal. Two “old girls,” M. G. Whittle and Juliet Smith from Martinsville, Va. and Kinston, N. G., respectively, will serve as junior class representa tives on the Honor Board. As a mem ber of the Honor Board last year, M. G. was also on the Altar Guild and in the Beacon. Juliet, who was a cheerleader at Granger High School in Kinston be fore coming to St. Mary’s, is present ly junior class editor of the Stage coach. She is also vice president of the Granddaughters’ Glub and a member of the Dramatics Glub for the third year. The junior class representatives of the Legislative Body are Suzanne Grockett and Gray Brothers. Suz anne, from High Point, N. G., serv ed on the Legislature in high school where she was also a cheerleader. She was senior attendant in the I lomecoming Gourt and was elected to Who’s Who in American Seniors. Serving as E. Y. G. president in Morganton, N. G., Gray was also vice-chairman of the French Glub and I lomecoming Sponsor of the Monogram Glub. This past summer Gray was a volunteer worker with mentally retarded children at the Western Garolina Center in Mor ganton. The new officers for the sopho more class this year are Georgia Her bert, Margaret Highsmith, Betsy Bittle, Jo Betts Barrett, Hannah Cra ven, Betsy McAlister, and Mardy Gray. On November 1 nominations were held and on November 7 the voting took place. Georgia Fferbert, the Honor Board representative for the underclassmen, was elected by the freshman and sophomore classes. She is from Co lumbia, S. C., and last year was the freshman representative to the Legis lative Body. This year she is in the Choir and on the Belles staff. The new president, Margaret Highsmith, was on the Belles staff and in the Y.W.C.A., Y.D.C., and the Granddaughters’ Club both last year and this year. She is from Fay etteville. Betsy Bittle, from Durham, is the v'ice-president. Her freshman year she was in the Glee Club and on the Belles staff and this year she is on the Muse and Stagecoach staffs, in the Choir and the Vocal Ensemble. Jo Betts Barrett, the new se® is from Greenville. She has b the Muse staflF and in the Y.\' and Y.D.C. both years. _ Hannah Craven is the tre~ and is from Lexington. SUSAN BYARS TO HEAD FROSH The freshman class of St. Mary’s elected their officers Tuesday, No vember 8. The officers are: Susan Byars of Dunedin, Florida, president; Sally I larris of Raleigh, vice-president; Patti Key of Southport, N. C., secre tary; Deanna Kreiscr of White Stone, Virginia, treasurer; Ann London of Pittsboro, N. C., Legislative Body; and Lynne Dunstan of Elizabeth City, N. G., dance marshal. Susan Byars’ last year’s school ac tivities include being a member oL the Student Congress and the annual staff at Dunedin High School. At Broughton, where Sally went to of school last year, she was president of the French Club and sergeant at arms of her homeroom, Patti was in the Beta Club, the homecoming court, and was also sec retary of her class for two years. Being a cheerleader and a member of the Glee Club were Deanna’s ac tivities at school last year. At Pittsboro High School Ann was a representative to the Student Coun cil and was a member of the Glee Club, the Art Club, and the Beta Club.
