MARY’S October f S' vis:. 1.! fis .Vii CLUBS STATE ACTIVITIES FOR YEAR THE LETTER CLUB The Letter Club consists of girls who have proven themselves out standing in the athletic program at St. Mary’s. One hundred points is recpiired for a girl to be eligible and 200 points, if she has not made an all-star team. Members are taken in throughout the year at the close of each sport. DRAMA CLUB St. Mary’s Drama Club is made up of those girls on campus who have interest in the theater and its many variations. It is this group which is responsible for all the plays which appear on the St. Mary’s stage and for bringing to light much of the hidden talent of its members. All girls who have any kind of interest in theater are invited to join; and any girl who wishes to try out for any of its productions may, whether she is a member or not. THE YWCA The Young Women’s Christian Association here at St. Mary’s is piimarily interested in helping less fortunate people. Each mem ber is able to contribute her spe cial talents, or to direct her atten tion and spare time to iieedv areas which interest her. YWCA'help is always apiireciated, and each girl will find a great amount of self- satisfaction as a result of helpiim- others. In the past, the YWCA has of- leied tlieir services to several io- stitutions in Raleigh as well as be ing of service on the St. Mary’s campus. Three specific places in Raleigh where YWCA has helped are the Dorothea Dix Hospital, the Methodist Orphanage, and the School for the Blind. Each of these places offers challenges and rewarding experiences. There are many benefits avail- able in the YWCA. All von have to do is be interested aiid give a small amount of your time. DANCE GROUPS TAKE IN NEW MEMBERS ORCHESIS There are four new dancers in St. Mary’s Orchesis, the ballet and modern dance group. The new members are Mary Page Thur- inond, Barbara May, Lula Bett 1 ittinaii, and Debbie Horton. ’Ihe group should be especially active this year because of the visit early in January of Agnes DeMille, famous dancer and chore- ogiajiher, who will address the en. tire student body. These latest additions to the troupe are Ashley Ettinger, Cille Keedwell Linda Spam, Del Watkins and Christy "Willis. The audience was juizzled at first by the lieu aj)j)earance of their coun selors. There was a great deal of va riety this year. Ihe talent ranged from the Ca})erettes to a harmon ica number by Mary Sims. Other acts were luintomines of Julius Caesar by Alarsha Myers and the Showmen, which consist ed of Miriam Planning, Charlotte Terry, Marty Eskeridge, Tibba Edgerton, and JMary Lee Hall Jane Marzoni and Kaye Lasater jiantomined a Sam and’Dave song with an included attraction of the boogaloo. ()f the 201 girls M'ho made their bow to so ciety on Heptember 8, 2!) of them are pre.sently attending St. -Mary’s.^ The leader of the ’67 Deb Ball, Yee Smith of Raleigh, at tended St. Alary’.s at one time. Mi.ss Arabell'a Na.sh and Miss Alar.v Holden Harrell were two of the assistant leaders of the Ball.
