GRANTS GIVEN TO
RALEIGH COLLEGES
Last April six colleges an
nounced the formation of CRC —
“Cooperating Raleigh Colleges” in
order to provide interinstitntional
cooperation.
The Southern Education Foun
dation in Atlanta provided a grant
of $10,000 to augment the coop
erative program which was start
ed in the fall of 1967 by a grant
of $7,500 from the Mary Reynolds
Habcock Foundation.
Class and library exchange and
other programs shared by these
schools will be offered to Peace,
St. Augustine’s, St. Mary’s, and
Shaw University in the 1968-69
school year.
Dr. John Yarbrough, chairman
of the Department of Hiology at
Meredith was named the head of
CRC for the first year. Dr. A^ar-
brough said the possibilities of
this program can be extended to
exchanging students, faculty
members and physical facilities.
In October 1968, IBM gave $10,-
000 to further help CRC. The
money was presented by Arthur
I. Becker, IBM general manager
in the Research Triangle Park to
Dr. A^arbrough.
Some of the goals of the CRC
are more opportunities for class
room and other study exchange
b.v students, establishment of ex
change professorships, a coopera
tive program of international
studies, joint calendar and sched
ule programming, and seeking of
further joint supporting grants
for the consortium. This coopera
tion is hoped to eventuall.v lead
to a development of new aca
demic minors.
Thus far the cooperation has
