STUDENTS GIVEN A VOICE AND A VOTE IN
ADMINISTRATION POLICIES
During the first week of school,
Mr. Pisani announced his plans
for student representation on thir
teen committees that had previ
ously been composed only of fac
ulty or board members. Nine com
mittees were limited to seniors,
but four were open to all stu
dents. Lists were posted and all
interested and qualified were en
couraged to sign up. Out of the
470 members of the student body,
150 girls did sign. Faculty mem
bers and student government of
ficers assisted Mr. Pisani in plac
ing everj' student who had signed
the lists and was not on Academic
Probation on a committee. Since
all committees must have a major
ity of faculty members, several
committees were limited to a
small number of students.
A new committee for the selec
tion of an Academic Dean is head
ed by Dr. Penick, a board mem
ber. The committee members will
establish the duties of an Aca
demic Dean and then will begin
to find the person to fill the posi
tion. The Dean will serve as an
assistant to Mr. Pisani and will
especially work with the' heads
of the acedemic departments.
Mr. Baird is the chairman of the
Chapel committee. The members
will discuss plans for more mean
ingful chapel services. They will
also study the controversial ques
tion of compulsory chapel.
The Catalog committee has al
ready begun work on updating
and improving the St. Mary’s
Catalog. Mrs. Gunn is chairman of
this committee.
Mrs. Brown is the chairman of
the Library committee which will
work to provide the students with
a well-equipped, modern library.
The Publicity committee is one
of the larger committees and is
supervised by Miss Haig. Members
will be asked to write articles for
the newspapers and perhaps to de
sign pamphlets to be sent to alum
nae.
Dr. Morrison is chairman of the
Lectures and Concerts committee
which will try to bring interest
ing and cultural programs to the
students.
Miss Richardson, Dean of Stu
dents, is chairman of the Hospi
tality committee. Among other
duties, the members will show
