St. Mary’s Employes
Additional Registrar
Mr. Thomas Johnson will assume
the duties of Registrar for SMJC on
July 1, 1971. This will be a splitting
of Miss Horne’s duties, which has
been needed for a long time. Miss
Horne will now handle strictly ad
missions, while Mr. Johnson will
handle all student records, sched
uling, transcripts, and grade reports.
Both will help with the job of coun
seling.
Mr. Johnson received his B.S. from
Wake Forest University and his
M.S. from Peabody College. He has
done additional work in English at
UNC-CH and in Guidance at
NCSU. He has had seven years high
school teaching experience in Wake
Forest, five years of English and
drama at Flora MacDonald College,
and four years of English at St. An
drews Presbyterian College. For two
years he was Director of Admissions
and Registrar at Peace, and will con
tinue to serve as Registrar and part-
time speech instructor as he has for
the past year, until he takes over his
new duties at St. Mary’s.
Mr. Johnson is married and has an
eight-year-old boy and a thirteen-
year-old girl. Miss Horne says he
speaks with a southern accent, is ex
tremely interested in young people,
is easy to talk to, and has done a lot
of counseling. He attends St. Jiles
Presbyterian Church, where he is an
elder and an adult Sunday School
teacher.
“Farmyard Fantasy”
Given By Sea Saints
The annual presentation of the
Sea Saints synchronized swimming
water-ballet show will be held on
the evenings of March 30 and 31,
1971 at 8:00 p.m. in the St. Mary’s
pool.
The theme of this show will be
“Farmyard Fantasy.’’ There will be
different numbers including the
opening and finale numbers. The
music for this year’s program comes
from various sources. Two of the
numbers use music from Rod Mc-
kuen records; one song comes from
the recent movie, “True Grit’’; and
one number is a rendition of a song
from “Oklahoma” performed for the
Sea Saints by Mr. Mike Bulley.
The Sea Saints cordially invite
each student, faculty and administra
tion member to attend this perform
ance either evening. Invitations will
be sent out on Monday morning,
March 29, 1971.
The current members of the 1971
Sea Saints are Bunny Williams, Re
becca Moser, Debby Frank, Claire
Spinks, Sandy Clarke, Lindsay Bur
ton, Betsy Brooks, Laura Crews,
Girigy Philpott, Elise Hutchins, Su
san Hundley, and Ruth Anne White.

Sarah Hoss has been appointed the
new Editor-in-Chief of The Belles

inally from Atlanta, but now resides
in Ramsey, New Jersey, was very
active in high school. She was on the
editorial staff of the literary maga
zine and president of the Latin Club.
She also was a member of the Na
tional Honor Society, The Beta Club,
and the Ski Club.
Sarah will be a senior here next
year. She is presently serving as a

the paper including more issues,
more student editorials, and more
student involvement.
High School Honor
Society Organized Here
The first St. Mary’s High School
Honor Society was formed this year
for sophomores who have attained a
3.5 Q. P. R. average for three se
mesters. This organization recog
nizes and encourages scholarship and
promotes “those qualities of character
reflective of the best in St. Mary’s
history.” Mr. Don Roberts serves as
sponsor to this society, along with
Mrs. S. A. Henderson and Mrs.
Nancy Smith as election committee
members.
The members of the organization
include Roberta Blue, President; Har
riett Cowper, Vice-President; Betsy
