PAGE 4 THE BELLES MAY, 1977 Athletes Receive Awards The annual Letter Club banquet was held Wednesday, April 28. The Most Valuable Players for the ■ Varsity Sports, Most Outstanding Dancers, and winners of Sigma Mu Tournaments were announced. In addition to these winners, the most outstanding members of the Letter Club were announced and letters were given to each member of the Club. Emily Bass, president of the Letter Club, hosted the evening. Most Valuable Player in Varsity Sports awards went to George Draughan - basketball, Jennifer Nye - swimming, and Bev Barksdale - diving. Most Outstanding Dancers were Julie Gholson - Or- chesis, Stephen Trogdon - Caperettes, Ann Pelletier - Scottish Dance , and Mary Hughes Boylan ~ Sea Saints Water Ballet. Individual winners of Sigma-Mu Tournaments were Anna Faircloth - billiards, Cupper Van Patten - archery, Boo Clary - badminton, Becky Wynne - bowling, Amy Lipsitz ~ ping pong, Merv Swain and Morgie Towler - Spades, Ellyn Faircloth - golf, Katie Cole and Gray Clark ~ tennis doubles, and Katie Cole - tennis singles. Most Valuable Intramural Players were Pam Evans - basketball, Ellyn Faircloth - speedball and softball, and Nan Smith -- volleyball. Though the Sigma teams were overall softball winner, the Mu’s were Intramural Win ners for 1976-77. The three Letter Club members with the highest number of points were voted most outstanding. Ann Bar- .wick won first place for having the highest number of points. Clair Dickie was in second place, and Ellyn Faircloth was the third place winner. Other Club members receiving letters were Marcy Connors, Beth Davis, Nan Smith, Betsy Berwick, Becky Williams, Carter Warren, Margaret Scott, Bev Barksdale, Nancy Thompson, Laura Lewis, Bootie McVeigh, Ann Pelletier, Merv Swain, Anna T. Webb, and Marty Marshall. A special plaque was awarded to Buford Oliver, Mu president, for the overall victory of the Mu’s this year Emily Bass was presented with an award for Best Sportsmanship. Neither Ruth nor Paula pays attention as Rock gives last minute instructions for the inauguration. A YEAR IN PICTURES
