B. Class Entertains the S.
Class
A very delightful evening was en
joyed last Friday in the Primary De
partment of the church, when the
Year Round Berean class had for its
guests their sister class, the Sunshine
Philathea.
Many interesting games were played
intermixed with stunts and contests
of various kinds. Miss Lizzie Jarvis
and Mr. Fred Anderson each gave a
humorous reading. Delicious ice cream
and cake was then served, followed by
short talks from the presidents and
teachers of both classes.
Another Knot Tied
The wedding of Miss Grace Jarvis
and Mr. Robert Ball took place at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Mark Ball. The
couple entered the room which was
decorated with green and white, to
the strains of the wedding march
from Lohengrin. Rev Mr. Ellis Reese
officiated. Only a few friends and
relatives were present.
Mrs. Ball is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. J. A. Jarvis of Democrat:
Mr. Ball is the son of Mr. and Mrs.
J. A. Ball of Mars Hill.
SCIENCE: WHY IS IT
NOT INTERESTING?
One of the best and most interest
ing programs of the year was rend
ered Monday night. May 2, by the
faculty members of the club, Mr.s.
Robinson, Mr. Poole, and Mr. Lin-
berry. This program was not only
highly educational, but very interest
ing. Often we pronounce our judg
ment upon a subject before we really
know enough about the subject to be
capable of possessing judgment. We
are, as a rule, interested in the tiling
that we know something of. Every
thing has some interesting phase,
Mrs. Robinson showed the interesting
and entertaining side of mathematics
in her discussion of mathematical
wrinkles, recreation, and short-cuts.
Mr. Poole gave a very interesting
discussion of the research work of
Dr. Fox, of Mercer University, upon
radios. Mr. Linberry concluded the
program by a brief discussion of the
work of Becquerel and Mme. Curie
upon radium. He showed the results
of their efforts, relating some very in
teresting incidents in the life of Mme.
Curie. By the electron theory of mat
ter he explained the disintergrati^ of
Uranium through its intermediate
products, the final being lead. He told
of the use of radium in medical and
surgical work, in the study of the age
and In the formation of the earth.
The corps of new officers, with Mr.
J. B. Crutchfield as president, are
laying plans for the coming year. The
next regrular meeting will be “Fare
well and best wishes,” for the mem
bers who will not return for another
year, in connection with a little so
cial event.
