Page Four Mars Hill Loses 20-0 To Davidson ‘B" Team (Continued from page 3) Hunter swept around his own right end for a beautiful 20-yard run which brought the ball to the Mars Hill 18-yard line. After sue cessive hard line plunges, Bolin plunged across for the final touch down of the game. Hunter picked up the extra point on a line plunge. With only seconds remaining to play, Edwards snared the kickoff and raced 46 yards for the most beautiful and longest run of the game. The final gun ended the scoring threat. Hunter and Bolin were the highlights in the “B” team’s back- field; White, Murray, and Ed wards did most of the ball-toting for the Robertsmen. Captain Gianakos, Whitaker, and Grant stood out in the Mars Hill fore wall. A new boy. Bob Finch, got into the game for a few minutes and turned in an excellent per formance at his tackle post. Lettermen and hopefuls have been pumping up and down the floor at McConnell Gym for some time now and your columnist sincerely believes that when the opening game rolls around Coach Fred Dickerson will show us a team vastly improved oyer the last year’s edition of the Lions. The schedule is as yet incom plete but it is certain that it will include games with Brevard, W.C. T.C., Biltmore, Lees-McRae and other outstanding teams of this section as well as a trip to Chat tanooga, Tenn., to enter the Southeastern junior college tour- nament next spring. This week’s bokay goes to the entire student body. The spirit at the games this year has been ex ceptionally good and we are look ing forward to the nights when the entire student body will gath er under the gym roof to cheer on the Lion cagers. How can the old Gym stand it? When do we have a snake dance? (Continued from page 2) a revival that would lead to the abolishment of such practices. Her prayers have all been answered: the boys’ dormitories have been added, and it is related that the owner of the store that handled the illicit beverages was in some way brought to see the folly of his acts, and that he, in the pres ence of some of the college boys and some citizens, destroyed the remainder of the whiskey in his store and dedicated the store to the progress of Mars Hill. Soon after this episode, Mrs Diggers and some twenty-four girls, accompanied by the pastor of the Mars Hill church, went again to Little Mountain and prayed once more for the land above mentioned, and then form ed a circle and clasped hands in a united prayer of thank.sgiving for the blessings already received. The sister society will, however, show its loyalty in a more substantial way when it gives its reception for the boys on the Saturday evening follow ing the anniversary program. J. E. Tate, regular term presi dent of the Philomathians, ex pressed the belief that the spirit of friendly rivalry existing be tween the two boys’s societies ap pears to be growing, and though the competition becomes more keen the bond of friendship grows, too. And while we are on the sub ject, why not renew the old West ern North Carolina High School Championship tournament, for merly held here as an annual event? Of course, we realize we are pressed for room but most of the teams could return home at night and Wood cottage would hold the rest. We realize, too, that, with the advent of hardwood floors at most of the high schools of this section, the need which the tournament was created to fill has disappeared. But the tour nament would bring many of this section’s top notch players to Mars Hill and give them a chance to see the school. WHY NOT COACH?
